And the entire world detonates.

There’s absolutely nothing tentative about this kiss. It’s open mouths and the stroke of her tongue against mine, the drag of her canine against my bottom lip, a husky whimper into my mouth as she presses herself against me.

My coat falls to the ground again as I lift one hand to cradle her head, my fingers spearing through her tangle of gold hair, pulling her closer. I spin us around, pressing her into the side of the truck, and she makes a sound of raw approval as I rock against her, my mouth devouring hers. Her legs come up around my hips, and I’m holding her up now, pinned between my body and the truck, my fingers digging into the backs of her thighs, the feel of her bare skin under my hands almost undoing me.

I kiss a delirious trail down the side of her neck. ‘Honey,’ I murmur, and my voice sounds like it’s coming from far away, ‘you always smell like honey.’ I press my tongue to the hollow at the base of her throat and she moans, writhing against me.

‘Nico,’ she murmurs.

She pulls on my hair, dragging my mouth back to hers and I have no problem with that. This kiss is a demand, she knows what she wants and I’m happy to give it to her, to give her anything, everything.

It’s only when her hand dips between us, towards my belt, that I come briefly back to my senses. I pull away too fast, and Lee stumbles. I reach out to steady her, my fingers wrapped around her arm and her back against the truck as she blinks up at me.

Both our chests are heaving. Her mouth is swollen, her eyes enormous. The top button of her waistcoat is undone and I have no memory of doing that. There’s a glimpse of black lace on display and a low, wild sound rumbles through my head. At least I hope it’s in my head.

We’re parked in the middle of town, right outside Darlene’s where anyone could walk by, and she’s been drinking.

Fuck.

My gaze drops to Lee’s legs, and the impression of my belt buckle is pressed into the tender skin on the inside of her thigh. Something about that is so obscene and such a turn on that my brain fogs again. I want to run my fingers over those pink lines, to soothe them away with my tongue.

‘I’m sorry,’ I force out. ‘I shouldn’t have let things get so out of hand.’

‘I’m not sorry,’ Lee says quietly. ‘I want to be out of hand with you.’

I step forward, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, letting my fingers trace a slow, deliberate line along the side of her throat.

‘Tomorrow,’ I say in a low voice. ‘When you’re not full of alcohol, you and I need to have a talk about this.’

‘About my neck?’ she murmurs, dazed.

I feel my mouth kick up. ‘About every fucking inch of you, Daisy.’ I scoop up my coat and her silly pink hat. ‘Now, get in the car.’

Chapter Thirty-One

Lee

By the time Nico opens the front door I’m still jittering with adrenaline. I can hardly believe I’ve managed to make it inside on my own two feet, because my legs feel like they’re made of rubber.

I knew that kissing Nico properly would be good. I didn’t know that kissing Nico properly would be the sort of earth-shattering experience from which there was no coming back. I can still feel it, little aftershocks of need and pleasure rippling through my body.

There is no possible way he could kiss me like that if he wasn’t interested. There was no one for us to perform for, no reason to pretend, no excuses between us – that was just Nico and me, and he wants this as much as I do. The thought has me giddy, I’m high on the sudden rush of complete confidence, a totally alien emotion.

‘I need to grab a few things,’ he says now. ‘I’ll sleep in Phoebe’s room tonight.’

I spin to look at him in disbelief.

‘What?’ I manage. I want to kiss him so badly that I don’t realise I’m actually walking towards him to do it until he puts out a hand to ward me off.

‘Hold up, let’s get you some water.’

My mouth drops open. ‘I don’t want water,’ I say slowly. ‘I want sex. With you.’ Maybe Mei is right and he really needs me to spell this out for him? ‘I want to have sex with you,’ I enunciate clearly. ‘Right now.’

He lifts a hand to his eyes. ‘Fucking hell,’ I hear him mutter as he turns and goes to get me a glass of water. When he returns I haven’t moved.

His jaw is tense as he holds out the glass to me. ‘Drink this.’

I frown. ‘I don’t understand what’s going on. It seemed like you wanted to…’
