“I do.”

True. She looked at Jensen. They couldn’t very well sabotage a peace negotiation they’d asked for just because his grandmother wanted it to happen.

“Have you considered how it’s going to look when she and I get divorced as soon as the ink is dry?”

“These things can be done quietly. As far as I’m concerned, no one need be the wiser if you revoke your oaths. So, what do you say?”

Jensen gave her a look that said, I’m in if you’re in.

“Until the agreement is signed, then.”

“Wonderful.” Rebekah clapped her hands. “Now let’s go in and see about rescuing my grandbaby.”

“Rebekah?” Meredith called before the woman stepped out of the silencing spell. “If you knew we were going to get divorced, what’s with the gift basket and the welcome-to-the-family spiel?”

“You don’t have to be married to have a long and happy relationship. I have a good feeling about the two of you.” She went inside.

Meredith lingered inside the silencing spell with Jensen. “She has a good feeling about us? She doesn’t even know me.”

“It’s all part of her elder protector mystique. As long as she’s always making grand predictions, half of them turn out to be right.”

“She brought me a gift basket and welcomed me to the family.”

“She’s a giving person.”

“It’s a lot of pressure. I don’t even know how to do whatever it is we’re doing and I don’t need other people putting labels on it.” Putting expectations on it.

“Then it’s not labeled.” He stepped in, slid his arms around her waist and rested his forehead against hers.

She blew out a breath. Now wasn’t the time to be having a non-relationship crisis. “Okay. Do you know why she wants this alliance so badly?”

“No. She raised me with the usual stay-away-from-Aspecters-at-all-costs line. I don’t know where this is coming from. You ready to go in?”

She started to nod, then shook her head. “I need to call Julian first.”

He tensed. “You don’t want to do that inside?”

“Everyone will be listening, and watching, and worrying. Judging. I can’t be who I need to be on that call in front of them.” They’d worked out in advance what she would try to get from Julian once they found the repository. Having her friends around would only distract her.

“Do you want me to stay?”

“Yes.”

“Then I’m here.”

“Thank you.” She turned away, because she didn’t think she could look at him either while she talked to Julian. But she was grateful when he pressed against her back, a strong, steady presence as she made the call.
