His breath puffed against her neck. He gently skimmed her throat with his lips and then began to move his hips with slow, deep rolls.

Just like looking at him in person, Gabe Olson didn’t have a bad angle in bed.

Emmy sucked in a hard breath, bracing herself for more, and marveling that her body was capable of processing so much sensation. The wave had begun to build again already. Or maybe it had never stopped crashing, she couldn’t be sure.

But she could be sure that Gabe Olson on top of her was the most beautiful thing she’d ever seen. His messy, still rain-wetted hair fell forward, and his cheeks had gone rosy. A determined focus burnedin his dark eyes as he moved his body against hers with more speed, their stomach muscles tightening together and lungs heaving for air. At the same time, he looked like he’d transcended into a realm where all his fantasies were coming true.

Emmy burned white hot thinkingshewas one of his fantasies. That he’d secretly dreamt of this moment like she had, and now that they were here, he realized any fantasy paled in comparison to reality.

She smoothed her hands over his broad back, his shoulders, up into his tangled hair, soaking it all in and making permanent memory out of it. It was all perfect, topped only by the gorgeous, ragged sound that ripped from his mouth when he finally lost himself and shuddered against her, completely undone. She clung to him, absorbing every quake, every gasp, the feel of his damp skin breaking out in goose bumps. The combination of it all plus the sound of him murmuring her name like a prayer shoved her right back over the cliff into another wave.

When they pulled apart and turned on their backs, breathing hard, the gravity of what they’d just done, all the lines they’d crossed, settled over Emmy in a haze. Nothing would ever be the same, she knew that, but when she thought about it, nothing had been the same since the day she met Gabe Olson anyway. Perhaps the inevitability that had been chasing them all along had simply finally caught up.

She lay beside him and welcomed the new territory, though she found it confusing, because where did they go from here?

As she wondered, Gabe seemed to come up with an answer.

“There is no—” he said, and paused to catch his breath. “Fucking way—” Another heave of air. “We are only doing that once.”

Emmy laughed and rolled over into his chest. She pressed a kiss into the firm muscle and smoothed it with her hand. His heart still thundered inside. “Well, we agreed to keep it in Mexico, and we’re technically still in Mexico for another day, so.”

In a rush of movement, he grabbed her hand and kissed it. “Brilliant logic as always, Jameson.” Then he reached for the sheet and threw it over them, scooting his body down and dragging her with him into a warm cloud of a tent.

Emmy squealed and savored the feel of his mouth already pressing more hot kisses into her chest. She could tell by the hunger in his touch, the need they had awoken in each other, that they would not be getting any sleep tonight.

Chapter16

They, indeed, got no sleep. That was why it took all Emmy’s strength to peel her eyelids open and then immediately snap them shut against the blazing sun when someone dared knock on their door and wake them the next morning.

Gabe was face down into the mattress beside her, arms flung out and hair sticking up in every direction from her yanking on it all night. The sheet half covered his perfect ass, and two of the pillows had landed on the floor.

Emmy sat up and shamelessly tugged the sheet to expose all his perfect ass and cover her chest.

The sight of Gabe Olson sleeping naked was criminally stunning. His long legs, his grooved back. That perfect, rounded real-life peach emoji she’d gripped in her palms multiple times last night. She could have stared at him for the rest of time. It took more strength than she knew she possessed to tear her eyes away.

She left him sleeping and assessed her own damage. Her hair tangled around her head in a frizzy nest. She could only imagine what had become of her makeup having run through the rain and then endured all the bedroom activity that followed. Remarkably, she was not hungover at all, likely because Gabe had given her more of a workout than she’d had in years and all the alcohol had evaporated from her body like mist. Still, exhaustion clawed at her. Her body ached in the most pleasant places. She wanted to lie back down, savoring her rubber muscles and the twinge between her legs, and sleep for a hundred years.

But someone was still knocking.

She glanced sideways to see the alarm clock showing 10:05a.m. in a slash of aggressively red digits. The last time she’d looked at the clock before the tide of sleep had pulled her under, it had been close to 6a.m. Gauzy predawn light had already begun to glow in the room then. Now it cut in like a blade thanks to a thrown pillow having landed by the curtains and pushing them partly open.

In her sweep of the nightstand, she saw her phone and noticed three missed calls and a handful of texts from her sister.

“Shit,” she muttered, hoping nothing was wrong right as she heard Piper’s voice on the other side of the door.

“Emmy! Are you alive in there?” Another knock followed it.

“Shit!” Emmy hissed again, feeling like they’d been caught. They were two consenting adults with personal history sharing a hotel room, so chances were not zero they were going to sleep together, but still. The idea of Piper catching her in bed with Gabe sent a wave of panic surging through her.

She swatted at his arm. “Gabe! Wake up!”

He stirred with a grumble as Emmy thumbed her phone, scanning her texts to see what all the fuss was about.

Piper had apparently lost the ability to text words and had resorted to emojis only. A flood of dolphins, fish, and turtles filled her screen, along with popping champagne bottles, oranges, and a few boats.

“What the hell?” Emmy muttered in confusion as Gabe sat up.

“What time is it?” he said with a yawn.
