Kole strode away, knowing with certainty he would claim her body and convince her heart if he stayed.
Chapter Five
LUNA
Kole had been gonea long time. He tore off through the cave, grumbling about his claim and providing sustenance. Physically he hadn’t left, but Luna felt alone. Hearing of her impending marriage had hurt the ice warrior. She told herself that it didn’t matter. That he didn’t matter. She had a duty to obey the laws established by the Elemis Council. As a royal, she would be responsible to uphold the dictates of their traditions. But, Goddess, Kole made her want to follow her heart. And organ she’d ignored all her seasons.
She couldn’t be sure when he found his place in her life, but he had. Even before seeing his face, his presence had intrigued her. The first time she’d heard him moving about in the forests, she’d waited to see who had come upon her.
He surprised her by staying hidden. A male who was content just to listen. Even the polished Ambassador Clod attempted to seduce her when no one watched—but not Kole.
Luna wandered deeper into the cave. She followed Kole’s scent. Upon finding him, her hand shot to her mouth. The male wore only coverings on his lower half. To trap the moan in the back of her throat from slipping free, Luna sank her teeth into her bottom lip.
“Aw... where did you go?” Hmm, to be like the dew and fall upon his skin, that was her desire.
He lifted his hand. Three fish dangled from an ice spear. “You need nourishment for the journey home.”
“Home?” Water droplets dripped from the tips of his hair. Thick chunks of it hide his eyes, and she wanted to reach up and push it away. Just to look at him made her sex clench. Without his shirt, his chest was on full display, warm heat bloomed in her core. He was cut and tone everywhere. In his wet leg coverings, his sex was pressed against his inner thigh, the outline of the bulbous crown holding her attention.
“We'll eat. Then I will return you to your male.” He kept his gaze fixed above her head. She missed his eyes on her.
Luna sank her teeth into her bottom lip. She wasn’t interested in fish, she wanted to feast on this fine male. A male who gave and spoke from his heart. With Kole, she didn’t view it as weakness. Contrary to what she’d been taught, Kole had courage and honor.
“Shouldn’t we talk about what I want?” She swallowed.
“No.” Snagging a hot stone, he laid the fish side by side, and then put it over the lava flow.
She reached for him. He jerked away before she could touch him.
“Stay here,” he grumbled. “I'm going to the cleansing pool.”
Desperate to rebuild what she’d torn down, Luna made an insane suggestion.
“I’ll join you.”
Kole’s eyes appeared to glow, his entire body hardening. Experience told her she was in danger, but she cared not. “No, you won’t,” he growled.
