An audible gasp could be heard in the great hall. Hope swelled inside Luna.
“I accept,” Luna proclaimed for all to hear.
King Turf shot to his feet. “How dare you shame my royal offspring with your vile demands. As her father, I can dictate the fate of my daughter.”
Kole approached the throne. “As the father of her unborn child, it is my right to protect my mate and offspring.”
A child? So, the cold in her belly hadn’t been nerves. She and Kole had created life, and her mate had sensed it before she.
And that’s when Clod’s blade grazed her neck.
“Kole,” Luna screamed.
Her mate moved faster than any creature she had ever witnessed. With a sweep of his hand, Clod’s body wretched away from hers, his muscles and limbs contorted in a series of violent jerks. The ambassador screamed in agony. And that wasn’t all.
“Flee this place!” Kole yelled at her.
The guards at the doors began to struggle against an invisible foe, their feet leaving the ground, only to be hammered against the earth. It was like gravity itself pulled and quartered them. The realization of what she witnessed slammed into her. Kole, her mate in heart and blood, could wield her gravitational powers as his own.
Luna would not run. She helped her mate escape the melee. Watching as he dispatched his opponents, his face determined, his will indomitable, his strength formidable.
Her mistake was taking her eyes off Clod. The rock slammed into her chest. She dropped to her knees as Clod banded his arm around her stomach.
“Your ice warrior will watch you and his offspring die.”
Using his powers, the arm grew in its weight, crushing the air from her lungs and the life in her womb.
“No!” Luna hollered. A blast of cold cut through Clod's abdomen, the frost circled him, a roaring vortex of arctic air sank into him, ripping his flesh from cracking bones.
And then Kole was there, an ice blade in his hand.
He grabbed Clod's head, wrenching it backwards, his jugular exposed. “You wanted my head. I’ll have yours instead.”
Clod’s head landed with a thud, and then her ice warrior male was on his knees, scooping her into his arms.
“I have you, my Luna.” He gripped her so tight it touched her heart. She threaded her fingers through his, placing them over her belly where their child grew. And she had him.
