“That I can’t keep kissing you, not if you want to keep a straight head.”

That made me pause, the warm fog surrounding my mind clearing ever so slightly. “I don’t get it.”

Zaldi leaned in, his forehead bumping against mine. “I’m an incubus, Lulu. And you-you are–fuck–.” His eyes closed, his hands tightening. “You deserve to know everything.”

“It’s okay, I can take it. I want to know.”

“You’re my mate, Lulu.”

“Your mate?”

His nose brushed mine. “And I’ve been waiting a long time for you.”

Chapter Ten

Zaldi

Her eyes were closed, and I begged my heart to slow down. To let her realize what I’d always known. We were tied together.

That I wasn’t a monster. At least, not exactly. I was simply hers.

Her eyes fluttered open, the pupils instantly blowing black as she stared up at me, her pretty mouth hanging wide. “Wow,” she breathed and I felt like electricity burned through my veins. She was seeing me, just as I was made.

No magic.

No glamour.

My mouth quirked. Her eyes, still glued to my face as one of her hands reached up, brushing over my loosened hair to the tip of one horn.

“An incubus,” Lulu whispered, awe ringing in her voice. “You’re real. I know you, I met you in my dreams and you never told me.”

“I wasn’t sure, not until my brother found his mate in a similar way.”

Lulu nodded, but I wasn’t sure my words were registering. Her other hand had joined in, letting my grip on her support us as she ran fingers over the ridge of my brow down to my lips, where her fingertips lingered.

“And fangs?”

“Both ornamental and necessary,” I answered, my cock throbbing at the thought of my teeth against her skin.

Her head cocked as I opened my mouth slightly to let her see. “Do you bite?” Her words were serious at first, but I could see the flash of humor tweak her smile just after. “I mean…”

“We don’t really settle disagreements like that anymore, but they are necessary for other things,” I leaned in, pushing past her hands to run my nose up the column of her throat.

Her pulse skipped, the blood rushing just under my lips. “Like–like what?”

“How we mark our mates, how we share venom.”

Her muscles twitched, “Venom?”

I hummed against her skin, my tongue slipping out for the smallest taste. “Not dangerous, it’s an aphrodisiac, designed to be shared and enjoyed together.” I parted my mouth, her taste drugging as I skimmed the sharp edge of one fang down her throat. “It’s why I had to be careful about kissing you.”

“What, why?”

“It’s in our saliva too,” I planted a gentle kiss against her skin and sat back. “I wanted you to want me without the venom, to know if it was real.”

Her hair swung forward, as she put a hand over her mouth, eyes dropping to her lap. “I guess I made that pretty clear.” The words were muffled by her own hand, but still, I could see the pink hue of her cheeks.

I chuckled, “I loved every second.”
