Jayla gasped, and Beau cursed.
Diego continued.“We’re going to leave here today together. We’ll go somewhere we can make plans for our future. You got that?”
Jayla growled and pushed him away from her.She hit his chest when he didn’t budge.“Don’t you take that tone with me, you asshole...”
Beau snorted and shook his head.He walked over to Joseph.“This may take a while.”
Joseph chuckled.“You guys are perfect for her.”His eyes misted over.“She’s so much like her mother. She’ll keep you on your toes, and she’ll need both of you to keep her in line.”
Joseph and Beau flinched when the other two raised their voices as they yelled at each other.
“How about I get the two out of here? We’ll plan on getting together in the next few days.”
Joseph nodded.“It will give her some time to calm down.”
Beau chuckled.“We’ll see about that.”He walked over to the fighting couple. He wrapped an arm around Jayla’s waist and pulled her away from Diego.“We need to head out.You guys can fight in the truck.”

Joseph smiled as heheard their arguing fade as they walked away.He sat down heavily in his chair and stared at the picture of him and his best friend, her father, standing on either side of her mother as she held Jayla in her arms. The pain had lessened a bit over the years, but he knew it would never go away. They had been a part of his soul, and that was something he’d never get back.
The only thing he had left was Jayla. He prayed she would be able to forgive him and let him into her life because to lose her, too, would forever break him beyond anything he could come back from.

Beau got the othertwo in the car and grinned when they continued to bicker.
“I’m hungry.”
Diego and Jayla stopped suddenly and turned to stare at him. They looked at each other and then nodded.
“I could eat,” Diego said and relaxed back in his seat.
“Me, too.I’m hungry.”
Beau hid his grin and pulled out in traffic.“What sounds good?”
“Chinese,” Diego said at the same time Jayla said, “Italian.”
Beau rolled his eyes when they started in again.Jesus, he wondered if it would always be like that with them, and then grinned. He hoped so.They were extremely entertaining to watch.Yeah, he could see his life in the years ahead. It would never be dull in their household.
Epilogue
Beau opened the door.“Come on in.”
Joseph grinned and stepped into the house Beau lived in with Jayla, Diego, and their three-year-old daughter, Ashley. He looked around and frowned.“Why is it so quiet?”It was never quiet in the house.
“Diego isn’t back with the food, and Jayla is getting Ashley dressed.”
“So, you’re saying we have a slight reprieve before the fireworks start?”Joseph asked and grinned.
Beau chuckled.“I never thought of calling what Diego and Jayla do as fireworks, but it fits.”
“Grandpa!”Ashley shrieked and raced to Joseph with her arms up.
Joseph grinned and lifted the little girl, who looked so much like her mother, against his chest.“How’s my little pumpkin?”
Ashley giggled and hugged his neck tight.
