Chapter Thirteen

Two weeks passed quickly.They did everything together—ate, slept, read, took walks, and made love.There wasn’t a moment that one or both men weren’t touching her in some way.

Jayla couldn’t remember ever feeling that happy before in her life.She felt like the three of them were the only people on earth.They were hidden in a remote wilderness the outside world couldn’t get to.

Beau came into the cabin after a canvass of the area and took his coat off right away, shaking some of the moisture from the storm that was raging outside.He caught Diego’s attention as he lay on the sofa with Jayla draped over his chest.

Diego slid from under Jayla, making sure he didn’t wake her.He met Beau in the kitchen.“What’s up?”

“Are you sure she’s asleep?”Beau asked as his gaze slid over her.

“Yeah.What’s up?”

Beau took a breath.“Rey came to us with a message from the director.He caught me in the woods on the way back here.”

“About what?”

“They’ve caught the guys that have been after him and beat Jayla.”

“Who was it?”

“Rafael Perez.”

Diego was shocked.“Son of a bitch.I was hoping that bastard died with his boss in the raid on his compound last year.”

“I’m just as shocked.It was unusual for him to be far from Felipe.If you saw one, you usually saw the other,” Beau commented.

Diego checked to make sure Jayla was still in the bathroom.“So, now what?”he whispered.

“We have to take Jayla back so she can identify the men in court in front of a jury.They know she saw their faces.The prosecutors think it will help their case, which I understand.I want those bastards put away.I just don’t want to leave here.”

Diego nodded.“Why is the trial happening so quickly?”

“His lawyer demanded it.I know, I can’t figure it out either, but it’s going to happen in a few days.”
