“I agree. But without the proper tools for me to have a look at her, I can only assume that it’s mental and not something else.Physically, she seems fine; she gets around all right and doesn’t seem to have any trouble getting up and down from chairs or out of cars. However, I’m not her doctor, so I can only guess at what’s wrong with her.”She said that she understood.“But if you go to see her, would you take someone else with you?I don’t care if it’s me, though, that would be great, but I know that either Mac or Anna would go with you if you asked. So would my mom or dad.”

“I was going to ask your mom.She calms me down when I’m stressed out.Much like you do, but in a more motherly sort of way.Your dad has the same calming effects on me when I’m around him, too.”He told her that was good to know.“I don’t know why, but I feel very close to your parents.More so than I do, Robin. She only wants to hurt me, and they want to comfort me.I guess that sounds stupid, doesn’t it?”

“Not at all.I’m glad that you like to be around them.It makes me feel better knowing that you’d go to them if you needed something. And I’m sure that my mom would be right there for you should anything happen.”She looked up at him, asking him if he thought something would happen.“I don’t know how to answer that. Each time your sister has been around you, she’s hurt you in some way.Mostly mentally, but she has hurt you physically as well. That purse of hers is a dangerous weapon.I wonder if she carries bricks in it.It wouldn’t surprise me at all if I were to find out that she carriessomething heavy in it.”

The movie forgotten, they talked about Robin and her childhood with Blake. It didn’t sound to him like it had been a good childhood being around her as much as she did.He also wondered if Robin suffered from the kind of depression that she claimed she did.He thought her to be selfish and mean. But he wasn’t a therapist and didn’t know her all that well.

“She’s been going to see a therapist since she was about ten.I think mom and dad encouraged her to seek help again when she was older.Just before they were killed, it looked like Robin was doing all right. Then I was put in her care after they were killed, and she has been lording over being depressed since then.I don’t believe at all that she’s taking the strongest drugs there are for depression.I don’t even believe that she’s depressed.I think that she uses that as something that she can blame her moods on and her meanness.”

He didn’t know, but he had thought the same thing when he’d been dealing with her.It was like a person who thought that they were the only one who had ever had depression and was going to use it as a way of getting out of things. He’d thought that from the very beginning when he’d been listening to Blake and Robin’s conversation at the auction.

By the time the sun was coming up, they’d both napped and talked more.He realized how much he didn’t know about Blake, and she said the same about him. They had gotten married so quickly that there had been no time for those special times of getting around to knowing anything about each other. He wanted that now.

“How about we have dinner out tonight?I have nothing planned but to come home from work, and it’s early enough that we can tell the cook that we won’t be home.”She said that she’d love that.“I have a couple of things I want you to think about.Do you want me to change you into a tiger? We should ask the king now so that he has time to think about it and give us an answer before the holidays.I’d like for you to be my little cat by the time we are getting ready for Thanksgiving. Also, children.I know you said you’d like some, but I can tell that you’re going to be ovulating soon.”

“I’m on the pill.”He told her that it wouldn’t matter if she was or not; he’d get her with child if she wanted.“Then I’m going to stop taking it.I didn’t like taking it in the first place. One less thing I have to worry about.”

“Good.”He waited for an answer and was surprised when she looked up at him with a sexy grin.“I don’t know if that’s a good one or not.But you look like you’ve just had a special meal and are wanting dessert now.Is that a yes?”

“Yes, I’d like to have children with you, but not this time.”He understood and told her that.“I want to get to know you better. That doesn’t mean that the next time we ovulate that I won’t change my mind again, but I’d really like to get to know everything there is to know about you.I love you, but I know nothing about you other than the few things that have come about since we’ve been seeing each other.”

“I agree. We don’t know a great deal about each other, and I’d like to change that.”He moved around on the couch, and she got up.“Are we done talking?”

“No, but I have to go to the bathroom.I’ve been needing to go for a while now, but I was so comfortable that I didn’t want to move.I have to go bad now.”They both laughed as she made her way down the hallway.“I think we should eat something when the cook comes in, too.I don’t want to have to go all day without something in my belly.Plus, I have to work, and I know you do as well.”

“I don’t want to go to work.”He heard her laughter all the way down the hallway.Getting up, he used his magic to get dressed for work because he knew he really had to go in.There were people depending on him, and he couldn’t let them down.

He was at work earlier than he’d been in a while.Getting things put away that had been delivered to his house was easy enough, and then he started on the files for today’s patients. He only had three before noon, but there were fifteen after lunch. He knew people hated to get up early for appointments, so he wasn’t bothered by the fact that he was going to have a slow morning.

After lunch with his staff, he decided to clear off his desk.Between patients, he was able to getmost of the paperwork done, and he was happy to know that tomorrow, when he came in, he’d not have to have so much to catch up on.As soon as he saw the last patient of the day, he was ready to go home and have a wonderful night out with Blake. He wondered when she was going to see her sister; he’d forgotten to ask, and how that had gone.

Just as he was thinking about reaching out to her, he felt her reach out to him.“I’ve got an appointment to see my sister at four. Will you be able to come with me?Your mom told me that she has a rose garden meeting today and won’t be able to make it.”

“We close up here at four, so I’ll be a few minutes late.It only takes me a couple of minutes to get to the hospital from here.”She said that she’d take it.“Good.Afterward, we’ll have dinner someplace. You be thinking about what kind of food you want, and we’ll go find it.I’ve been craving comfort food, but that can mean anything that fills me up and gets me sleepy.”She laughed.

“I’d like comfort too.Maybe we can find something that will satisfy both our cravings.I don’t know how I’m going to feel after seeing Robin, but I can always eat. She’s going to be hard on me, I know it, but I feel like I should go and see her while there is someplace that she can notget back at me.I know that the hospital isn’t the best place for her with her problems, but perhaps she might have learned something while there.Do you think so?”

“I don’t know.”She laughed again, but he could tell it was forced.“She’s pretty hard-headed.Stubborn too.But you never know. She might have had a change of heart about you and me being together while there.I know that she has to see a doctor while in the rooms she’s in.”

They spoke about Robin for a few minutes more, and then she said that she had to go.He knew that it was going to be hard on her to see her sister, but at least, like she said, it was someplace where she couldn’t harm her. They would have taken her purse away from her while she was there, and it would be under lock and key.

At ten to four, he was finished.Having the girls who worked for him start to lock up the building, he was ready to go before four.Being at the hospital right on the nose, he was able to see Blake before she went in for her appointment. He’d not realized that they would only allow her one visitor at a time, so he had to wait in the lobby for her.Kissing her on the mouth before she went in, Blake told him that was just the power boost that she needed to face Robin. He didn’t know what he’d do if one of his brothers were like Robin. He knew that, for as close as they were, it would be hard to be around them if they were acting like they were sick all the time. That is what he was assuming. That there was nothing wrong with Robin that a swift kick in the ass wouldn’t cure.

Since he had his laptop with him, he was able to pull up his work and personal email. There wasn’t much in the way of personal things that he had to take care of, but there were plenty of business. There was always someone wanting to sell him something or even to use something that they had in stock. He didn’t always fall for those sorts of things, but he found a couple of items that he thought he might give a shot to.Anything that he could give to his patients at little to no cost was perfect for him.

At ten after four, just a few minutes after Blake had gone back to see Robin, he heard a loud scream.Ready to go do battle for his mate, he and his tiger had to wait until someone let him in before he could make sure that she was all right.Turns out, they wouldn’t allow him in as they were taking care of it themselves.Christ, he hoped so.He didn’t know what he’d do if something were to happen to Blake.

Chapter 9

Blake was ready to leave when her sister threw a hissy fit.She was screaming about her triggers when the nurse came in to tell her to shut up.It might have been funny if not for the fact that she actually felt sorry for her sister.Robin was being treated like everyone else on this floor, and it did her heart good that no one was taking her bullshit. Not even ten minutes into her visit, and she had a headache.Blake wanted to go home and hide in her bed; it depressed her so much that her sister would treat her this way.

“You should have come to see me before this.”Blake said nothing but sat in the chair that was across from Robin.“I’ve been waiting for you to come here and feel my suffering, too.You have no idea what your treating me like this, does to me.”

“I think I’ve been feeling better since you’ve been in here.I know that you can’t hurt me, physically or mentally, while locked up in this hospital.”Robin glared at her and told her that she was just being mean because she was far sicker than she was.“I doubt very much that you know that for sure.I think you’ve gotten so used to having your own way when you claim that your depression is out of control that you’ve started using it for everything.”

“I just like having things just so.And when you act out at me, it triggers my depression so badly that I can’t function. While here, I’ve had to have a quiet time in my room while the others go on with their lives like nothing is wrong. That’s why I know that my depression is worse than theirs. No amount of socializing or playing group games is going to make me feel better.”Blake told her that she should try to make friends.“With these people?I don’t think so.I have enough trouble dealing with my staff.I know you don’t know how that feels, but it’s difficult being rich.”

“Oh, I don’t know.Reagan and I have a staff, and it’s been really nice.Having someone to cook for us is the best, but I like having my bed made for me when I have to get up in the mornings too.”Robin accused her of lying.“About what? The staff or the bed being made.Either way, I’m not going to be able to prove that we have staff, too, that you’ll be satisfied with, so let’s move on.What did you want to see me about?”
