“Well, then, why don’t we make this a little more permanent?” Richard, reaching into his back pocket and pulling out a small, black box.
“Richard…,” Scarlet gasped.
“Scarlet, I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I love you more than any words or actions could ever express. You make me complete. You’re my world. I just want to be with you until I take my last breath. I would move heaven and earth just to look into your eyes and see the love and joy that thrives in them. You are what makes my life worth living.”
He opened the black box, revealing a white gold ring with a huge, sparkling diamond in the middle. It had to be at least five carats. Richard held the ring in two hands and got down on one knee.
“Scarlet, will you marry me?”
“Richard, of course I’ll marry you!”
Richard stood up, slipped the ring on Scarlet’s finger, and kissed her like he had never kissed her before. They embraced deeply and passionately, celebrating their big step into their future as soon-to-be husband and wife.
“I kind of wish we didn’t have to get back to work,” Richard said.
“Well, we have some time before the meeting starts, right?” Scarlet replied playfully, holding out her hand and admiring her ring.
They closed the door, ran back into each other’s arms, and looked to the future with optimism and delight. There was nothing else in the world that mattered to them except each other, and the future they had in front of them.
