“She’s in the upstairs bathroom,” August said with his phone to his ear. He started toward the front door of the house. Rashad, Daylen, and I were on his heels.

There were more kids inside of the house than were outside the house. Yeah, we needed to hurry up and get out of here. This was not a good situation for my cousin or Daylen to be in.

Matter of fact.I turned to my cousin and Daylen, who were behind me. “Aye, y’all go sit in the truck. Y’all don’t need to be in here with all these kids.”

Rashad was about to say something, but Daylen patted his shoulder. “Aye, he’s right. Let’s wait in the whip. Kyro, call us if you need us.”

I knew my cousin didn’t want to leave, because he was a protector by nature. The same way that he was a protector, so was I. I waited for them to clear the door before I headed upstairs to where August had already gone.

I came upstairs just in time. August had some lil boy hemmed up on the wall. “Nigga, I will kill you behind my sister.”

This was an interesting side of him because he had a meek personality. He was the type of person that if you saw him, your first impression would be that he wouldn’t bust a grape in a fruit fight. I’d admit that I thought the same thing. Tonight showed me that he got active when it called for it.

“Man, let me go. Ain’t nobody did shit to your sister. I was banging on the door because I gotta piss,” the boy said.

I walked to the bathroom door, then knocked lightly. “Tuesday, open the door. It’s Kyro.”

Seconds later, the doorknob turned, and the door cracked open. Tuesday had a tear-stained face. Her eyes connected with mine before she pulled the door open and rushed out into my arms. “Can we leave?”

I glanced over my shoulder. “August, come on. Leave that lil fuck nigga alone.”

The little boy’s face was red as fuck.Did August slap his ass or something? When I saw his hand go across the boy’s face, I had my answer. “Bitch-ass nigga!”

The boy dropped to the ground after August released him. He came over to us, then pulled his sister from my arms. He kissed her forehead. “Let’s go, Sis.”

We started toward the stairs. Before we descended, the door closest to the stairs opened. Out came a little light skin female. Confusion sat on her face. “August? Tuesday? What’s going on?”

Oh, this must be fast ass Amanda.August’s eyes cut over to her, and his jaw tightened more than it already was. “Get the hell on somewhere with your ho ass. You put my sister in a situation that could have got her hurt. Your ass was too busy with dicks in you.”

Amanda’s mouth dropped open and her face reddened. She didn’t have a chance to say anything to us, because we were already gone. When we got downstairs, there were kids huddled up, spectating. Other kids didn’t give a fuck about what we had going on. They were in the midst of their own enjoyment.

Rashad got out of the SUV when we got close. He opened the back door. “She good?”

I nodded as August and Tuesday climbed into the back. “Yeah, she good.”

After I was in and the door closed, I noticed Daylen on the phone.“Yeah, the address is 968 Blk Lane. There are kids everywhere. They’re drinking and smoking. It’s just bringing down the neighborhood value.”

This nigga was wild. He sounded like a true worried neighbor. By the time we drove out of the neighborhood, Daylen was off the phone. “You really called the police on them?” I asked.

He glanced at me with an arched brow. “You fucking right I did. I have a son and about to have a daughter. My spirit just wouldn’t let me leave that place and not give them a reason to disburse.”

I chuckled, then peeked at Tuesday. “You know hanging with Amanda is a wrap, right? When Mar finds out, she’s going to flip, so be prepared.”

Her head fell back. “Can we just not tell her, maybe? I know I can’t hang with her anymore.”

I shook my head. “Nope, I’m not about to keep this shit from her. You know I can’t.”

“I know. Ugh, well can we at least tell her in the morning?” Yeah, she knew how her sister got. I’d give her until the morning.

A Few Days Later. . .

Between Tuesday, August, and Kyro, I didn’t know who I wanted to throw the hell away first. All three of them worked my nerves in their own individually special ways, but I loved them all. I just wanted to choke them all.

First, we had my brother and his new place of residence that everyone knew about except me. Yep, I found out that even Tuesday knew that August had moved into his own apartment. This was that part of the whole mother-sister thing that I didn’t like. Siblings were supposed to band together to keep secrets from their parents, not their sister. It was a sticky situation because they saw me as their sister, but their mother too.

When I called August to check in on him, I asked if he had something to tell me. He told me no, but the hesitation in the response told me yes. I fed Kyro a hearty plate of spaghetti, fucked him like a freshly hired porn star, and put him to bed. We knew the codes for each other’s phones, so it was nothing for me to take a little look-see. I pulled up his text thread with August, and there was an address I didn’t recognize.

The next day, I packed me and bae a little car snack. He rode passenger prince to the address that I found out was my little brother’s new apartment. Was I upset that he got an apartment? Absolutely not. Was I upset that he hid it from me? You’re damn right I was.
