Nash grunts, his body stiffening as his orgasm follows, making more of a mess between us. It’s one of the hottest experiences I’ve ever had.
He stills above me, breathing hard, his body shivering. I run my hands through his hair, before cupping his cheeks. We stare at each other, something intense passing between us.
I don’t regret this. I was worried I would, but I don’t. I loved it.
Nash leans down to kiss me, his lips warm, breathing heavy. “Let’s go shower.”
I huff a laugh. “But I don’t want to move,” I complain.
Nash smiles. “Neither do I, but, uh… we’re very messy.”
“What’s wrong with that?”
“You want to sleep covered in our cum?”
I laugh. “No, but hearing you say cum is really hot.”
He smirks. “Then let’s go in the shower and wash thiscumoff of us.”
He moves to get up, but I grab his arm and pull him back down because I need to kiss him again. And again. And again. And again.
Chapter thirty-three
Nash
We alternate staying at each other’s places for the rest of the week, each night a repeat of the first. It’s amazing, and definitely enough. But I think about more, about being inside of him. How could I not? I’ve felt him naked beneath me, held his cock in my hand, tasted every inch of his skin.
What we have, this isn’t just about sex. It’s so much more than that. We didn't become close the way most people do, but somehow that makes our bond stronger. What we have, it’s special. It’s just one of those things you can’t explain but you know is real. That it’s meant to be. And I don’t usually believe in things like that, but Carter has me questioning a lot of things, and I don’t hate that.
I don’t go into the office on Saturdays, but I do have some errands to run. I drop Carter off at the shelter so he can do his volunteer work while I go get them done.
I’ve been trying to be better about not working on the weekends, taking off time when I can because these cases are hard, and if I bury myself in them, I won’t have much else. I know how it goes. It’s exactly what I did in Chicago when it came to work, and I’ll do the same thing here if I’m not careful.
Only now there is more on the line. There’s Carter.
Which helps and makes things more difficult at the same time. Because I can’t stop thinking about Ryan’s case every spare minute I have, as much as I shouldn’t. Lilianna wasn’t at work Thursday morning, but I was told she worked on Fridays. When I stopped in, she was there, and I was able to set up a meeting with her and Glint for Monday morning. This is the last piece of this puzzle. Once they get her statement, along with all the other stuff we have on this guy, we should be able to search his place and get an arrest. If we’re lucky, the guy will be behind bars by dinner on Monday.
The furniture I ordered for my backyard is ready, so I drive to the store to pick it up. I go around the back and the workers help me load it up in my truck and strap it down. I get everything dropped off at home, breaking a sweat to get everything in the back alone, even in the cold. I’m just finishing up when Carter calls to say he’s done, but if I’m busy he can walk home like he usually does.
“Don’t be ridiculous. I’ll be there soon.”
“Okay.” I hear the smile in his voice. He knew I would argue and demand to pick him up. I like that he knows me.
I end the call, get into the truck, and head to him. He comes out the moment I pull into the lot.
“Did you do everything you needed to do?” he asks.
“Yes. How was it?”
“Good. Busy, as usual. They had a bunch of animals dropped off yesterday after raiding someone’s house on a call about animal abuse. They pulled so many from the house that they had to move some to places out of state.”
“Shit,” I mutter.
“Yeah, it’s so sad. Like, if you don’t want the animals, just give them to someone who does. Why are you keeping them and hurting them?”
“I learned a long time ago that human behavior doesn’t always make sense, and it’s best to not try to make sense of it.”
He takes my hand, locking our fingers together.
