“You called mesexy.” She sounds like a little kid whispering a bad word and I have to throw my head back to laugh.
“You just had your tongue in my mouth and you’re freaking out about the word sexy?”
“Bodhi!”
I pull back a little so I can peer into her face. “Is it really weird?” I ask, my voice suddenly gravely. I swallow. “To think about me this way?”
She studies me for a minute and then slowly shakes her head, eyes wide, like she’s surprised about it. “It’s not weird,” she whispers. “You’re, um, sexy, too.”
I laugh some more. “That sounded super genuine, Lele.”
She smacks my chest. “I mean it! You’re like, crazy sexy.”
“Yeah?” I arch an eyebrow, trying not to feel a ridiculous swelling of pride. “Are you finally going to tell me what you meant by thiswhole thing?”
She rolls her eyes. “I meant your body, okay? You have a really nice body. Especially your shoulders. And your chest. I, um, like them a lot.”
She couldn’t sound more awkward if she tried but the red in her cheeks tells me she’s sincere and there’s no way my chest isn’t puffing up now. I kiss her, hard, then slide my mouth over to her ear, right in the spot where she kissed me before. “I’m also quite a fan of your body, love.”
She sways a little on my lap and God, I love that I’m affecting her like this. I cup one of her cheeks and gently tilt her face back to mine.
There is nothing slow or gentle about our kissing this time. Everly seems just as feverish as I am, her eager hands roaming over my chest and shoulders. At some point she shifts to straddle me, which is pretty goddamn amazing since it means I can pull her even closer. I have a feeling I’ll never be able to get her close enough, but this is a start.
My brain and body battle with each other. I want to touch her in all the ways I’ve always imagined. I want to rip her t-shirt off so I can feel how soft the rest of her skin is. But I also know these feelings are newer to her than they are to me, and I really, reallydon’t want to scare her away.
So it surprises the hell out of me when I feel her fingers working on the buttons of my shirt. “You’re not allowed to wear this anymore,” she mutters.
My brain is too crazy with lust to manage more than a vague, “huh?”
“Not unless I’m with you. This shirt is for me.”
I have no idea what she’s talking about, but her fingers against the bare skin of my arms makes it impossible to care. I’m wearing an undershirt, which suddenly feels like a really stupid decision as I imagine how much better her hands would feel on my bare chest. My hands go to the hem of her t-shirt, because getting us skin-to-skin sounds pretty damn good right now and—
“Holy shit!” a voice yelps from the doorway, followed by a thud and more cursing. “I didn’t see anything,” Fox calls. “Sorry. Shit!”
“What’s going on?” A female voice this time. Eva? “Oh!”
“Move, Fox,” Will grumbles. “We can’t get in—oh.”
I close my eyes, trying to fight down the panic at being caught by Everly’s family with her in my lap and my hands up her shirt. Not because I give a damn, but because I’m terrified she’s going to freak out. Deciding she wants to give us a try is a whole lot different than having everyone know about it two minutes in.
“Wait, who’s kissing who?” another Ransome voice asks—definitely River. Awesome. Just bring the whole family in here. Might as well go get Reed while we’re at it.
“Everly,” I mutter, when I feel her body start to shake against mine. My stomach goes crashing to the floor. Is she crying? But then she lifts her head from where she was hiding it against my chest and I see that she’s laughing. Not just laughing, but absolutely cracking up. I grin automatically, too happy at the sight of her laughing like that to give a shit about her cousins.
“You should probably get up,” I tell her. “So I can, you know, put my shirt back on.” That has her cracking up even harder, burying her face in my neck.
“We’ll go,” Eva says.
“Fuck that,” Fox exclaims. “When did this start?”
“It’s none of our business,” Eva says firmly.
“Like hell it isn’t. We’ve been trying to get them together for weeks.” He makes a distressed noise. “I’d rather not have to see it, though.”
Everly meets my eyes, her smile huge, and slides off my lap. She doesn’t go far though, tucking herself right against me on the couch. I immediately bring my arm around her, because not touching her isn’t an option.
“Aw,” Eva says softly, and I look over to the door. Now that Everly isn’t blocking my view I can see that Eva, Will, Fox, Jasmine, and River are all crammed there in the entryway. Fox is gaping at us, Eva has a soft smile on her face, and Will and River are both looking determinedly at the ceiling, like they’re afraid of what they might see if they let their eyes wander.
