“For all I know, you didn’t want to talk to me at all!”

His face softens. “Shit. I didn’t think you would take it that way.” He runs his hands through his hair, looking agitated. “I’m sorry, sweetheart. That was a dick move.”

I tell myself not to soften, but it’s difficult with him giving me those remorseful eyes. His use of the wordsweetheartgets to me, too—he’d called me that last night. And the fact that he said it was thefirsttime we slept together. Maybe that means it won’t be theonly?

He kneels next to my bed and takes my hands, eyes intense. “I wasn’t thinking, Alex. Wait, that’s not true. I was too busy thinking.” He gives me a sheepish smile. “I was obsessing about you all day. I kept replaying everything—which was incredibly annoying with my brother sitting a few feet away.”

“You were obsessing?” I whisper.

His grin grows. “I could have given teenage you a run for your money.”

“Are you saying there were hearts with my name in them?”

He laughs. “If I’d had a pen, there definitely would have been.” His eyebrows go up. “You still mad at me? Or can I come up there and finally get you in my arms again?”

Like I’m going to argue with that. I nudge George so I can move over on the bed, making room for Wyatt, and then he’s there, holding me. Wyatt Warner in my bed—God, how many times have I dreamt of this moment?

“I really am sorry,” he whispers into my hair. “I’ll be better at texting when we can’t talk in person.”

I pull away enough to be able to study his face. “Does that…you want to keep going with this?”

“Fuck yes,” he says firmly. Then doubt clouds his eyes. “I mean, if you do. I’m not going to pressure you or anything. If you just wanted a night…” Pain crosses his features, his jaw clenching tight. “I would respect that.”

“I definitely want more than one night,” I say quickly. “I just… we didn’t talk about it last night.”

He laughs softly. “You must have zonked out much earlier than I realized.”

“What do you mean?”

“I did a hell of a lot of talking last night. You gave me a few mmms and nods, so I figured you were agreeing with me, but I guess you were already out of it.”

I make a face. “Of course you have to wait until the one time I actually fall asleep like a normal person before spilling your guts.”

He laughs, pulling me closer until he can tuck my head under his chin. “How about I review the highlights?”

I snuggle in closer, happiness and excitement coursing through me. “Yes, please.”

“First I told you how happy I was that we finally did that. And I talked a lot about how amazing it was.”

“Definitely amazing,” I agree dreamily.

“Then I told you that I was going to have a damn hard time letting you go now that I know what it’s like to be with you.”

My heart swells. “Same,” I whisper.

His tone shifts a little. “I don’t know how this is going to work with the family,” he admits. “I…it might take me a while. To get comfortable.”

I’m not crazy about that, but not surprised, either. “It’s hard for me to keep things from Everly.”

He sighs into my hair. “I know. I don’t want to ask you to lie.”

“Maybe it won’t be a problem,” I say, not feeling too hopeful. “She’s pretty distracted by the store and the show.” I suddenly sit up, gaping at him. “How did you get in here? Aren’t there cameras out there? Aren’t Everly and Fox out there?”

He pulls me back down. “Everly and Fox are playing some card game with Bodhi. I waited until the cameras were focused on them and said I was going to bed.”

“What about the stationary cameras?”

“They don’t cover this far down the hallway.” He glances over his shoulder. “Will Everly come to check on you? Should I lock the door?”
