“I think you tried to do the right thing.

He scowls. “Alex—”

I hold up a hand, not interested in arguing this. “What’s the other thing? You said you wanted to tell me a few things.”

“Right.” He runs his hand through his hair, which is about as messy as I’ve ever seen it. He must have been doing that a lot this morning. “I got some good news today.” His face softens. “Turns out that guy who called last night? He’s not George’s owner.”

My heart trips. “What?”

“He found his dog at a shelter this morning. George isn’t his.”

I stare at him, open mouthed. “You mean…we don’t have to give him back?”

Wyatt’s grin is huge now. “Not yet, at least. Someone else could always come forward, but ithasbeen more than a month now…”

I cover my mouth, tears filling my eyes. “Oh my god.”

He nods and there’s wetness in his eyes, too. “Yeah.” He takes a deep breath. “There’s one more thing, but I need your help for this one.”

I’m still reeling over the news about George. I can’t believe we get to keep him. I don’t know what’s going to happen next, don’t know where either of us will be living or if Wyatt will even stay in the state, but knowing that George will be around somewhere makes me feel so relieved I can’t even process.

“Alex? A little help?”

I shake my head, trying to focus. “Right. What do you need help with?”

His lips twitch. “I need you to do your little trick.”

“My little…what?”

“Your trick.” The lip twitch is turning into a full-on grin now. “You know. The trick you use to get me talking.”

I stare at him, completely confused. And then it hits me and my mouth drops open again.

“Ask me the question, sweetheart,” he says softly. He stands there on the other side of the foyer, looking tired and sad but hopeful, too, and I know exactly what I’m supposed to say.

“Tell me one thing,” I whisper. “Tell me one thing about how you feel.”

His grin spreads, lighting up his whole face. “I’m in love with you. Pretty sure I have been all along. Maybe even for the last two years. I know I don’t deserve you and I know I screwed this up so badly, but I love you. And I always will.”

I don’t even feel my legs moving as I jump off the bottom stair and launch myself at him. He grunts out a laugh as I land in his arms, lifting me up so my feet don’t touch the ground.

“That was more than one thing,” I tell him.

He laughs, pressing his lips against my forehead and taking in a huge breath, like he’s trying to imprint my scent on his brain. “Told you that you’re tricky like that. You ask me one thing and you end up getting all my secrets.”

“I love you, too,” I whisper, wrapping my arms even tighter around him. I don’t ever want to let him go. “So, so much.”

He lets out a ragged breath, squeezing me tight. “That’s the best news I ever heard.”

I hear Everly’s (or maybe Paige’s) strangled sob from the top of the stairs, and then Rose laughing and shushing her. Wyatt’s eyes go wide. “The girls are all up there, aren’t they?”

I bite my lip and nod. “Sorry?”

He laughs, bringing his mouth to mine. “Guess we should give them something good to gossip about.”

Our kiss feels a lot like the one in Miami—like we both know we won’t be able to survive without it. But it feels new at the same time. Because now we don’t have to hide or be afraid or wonder what will happen next. I may not know exactly what the future holds but I do know this—Wyatt Warner is mine. And I have no intention of letting him go.

He pulls his mouth away so he can look down at me. “This is still going to be complicated,” he says.
