“You have to go to that interview,” she says, voice flat.
Frustration roars through me. “Fuck the interview.”
Rose is shaking her head. “No, Leo. You need to do this. A paid internship in the exact area you want to study? You don’t pass that up.”
She’s right. I know she’s right. So why does it hurt so bad to walk away from her?
I grab a pair of khakis and a polo shirt from the dresser and go into the bathroom. The entire time I’m getting dressed and cleaned up I’m fighting with myself to keep from going back out into the room to finish what we started.
When I’m ready, I pause at the door. I know I can’t walk any closer to her or I really will say fuck it and stay. Instead I meet her gaze from across the room. “This isn’t done, Rose.”
Then I leave, too afraid she’ll argue to wait for her response.
