Until my mom clears her throat. “Rose.”

I look up from my book and see the new arrival has parked. But I can tell even from here it isn’t my brother with the twins. Not unless Ash has suddenly grown more than a foot.

The engine cuts off and Will climbs out of the driver’s side. The man in the passenger seat takes longer, and I realize why as soon as his door opens.

“Is that Leo?” my mom asks. “Wait—is he wearing a blindfold?”

It is Leo, and he definitely has something wrapped over his eyes. Will comes around the car and pulls the cloth away, tossing it on the passenger seat. Then they both turn and look up at the porch.

My heart gives a great lurch in my chest. Leo looks terrible, like he hasn’t slept or eaten in days. There are dark circles under his eyes, his skin is pale, and he’s got at least two day’s worth of stubble on his chin.

But his green eyes are sharp and alert and they zero in on mine right away. He doesn’t blink or look away. He pierces me with the same intensity I’ve seen in his gaze so many times.

Leo is here. And my stupid heart can’t decide if it’s overjoyed or ready to break all over again.
