“I’m sorry,” she rasps, and another tear falls.
I lean down and kiss it away, warm salt against my lips, a little hitch in her breath when I lean away again.
“Don’t be sorry, sunshine.”
She shakes her head. “But I’m being so selfish. If I could make a damn decision… if it wasn’t so hard… I… I…”
Her words fail, and I press my lips to her forehead. “You know there’s nowhere else I’d rather be, right?”
Soleil’s brow furrows, and I kiss it again.
“No matter what else happens, it’s true,” I say softly. “There’s nowhere in any of the thirteen realms I’d rather be than right here with you.”
I don’t know if she believes me. I don’t know if it’s enough.
But her hands grip more tightly, pull me to her, and when she speaks, it’s with the same painful longing I feel through every inch of me.
“There’s nowhere else I’d rather be right now, either, Finn.”
She kisses me. So soft, so gentle. A promise neither of us can make.
“I want you,” she says between kisses, more adamant this time. “I want you so much it hurts.”
Fire burns through my veins. Magick pulls taut between us.
Unable to help myself a moment longer, I dip my lips to hers.

Soleil
As soon as I speak the words, Finn’s lips crash into mine.
I expect him to open a portal and take us somewhere, but he’s in no hurry.
For a few long, achingly sweet moments, all he does is kiss me.
In this beautiful place—under a piercingly blue sky, surrounded by the most incredible scenery and with the soft autumn breeze flowing through the meadow—he kisses me.
The magick of our bond hums its approval, like this is the only thing in the entire universe that makes sense.
With each passing moment, the hum grows stronger, the sizzle and lick of it against our skin burns brighter, our kisses get deeper and more desperate. Hungry, greedy, grasping and pulling until it’s a miracle we’re still upright.
“I don’t want to have sex on the ground,” I gasp between kisses. “Is there… somewhere… we can go?”
Finn chuckles, and the sound of it echoes all the way through me. “Is that your intention? To have your way with me?”
“Any objections?” I ask, already kissing him again—breathless, graceless, a silent order for him to give me what I want.
“None at all.”
Before I can blink, he takes my hand and opens a portal.
It’s getting easier each time we do this, and I barely flinch at all as we travel through the realm between realms.
Finn steps us gracefully out of the portal onto the balcony outside his rooms, and as soon as my feet hit the ground, he lifts me into his arms. Legs around his hips, hands on his horns to pull his mouth back to mine, magick pulsing taut and insistent between us like there’s no possible way I can be close enough to this demon to be satisfied.
He carries me inside, and we barely make it into the room before we’re tearing at each other’s clothes, kissing and caressing every inch of newly exposed skin.
