I push open the bathroom door. Empty. The light was still burning, but as my eyes sweep across the room, there’s nothing. Then I noticed it. My T-shirt from my draw is lying on the floor. Not folded, not dropped. Discarded. Something inside me snaps. No, no...
She wouldn’t leave without telling me. Not after everything that’s happened. I back out of the bathroom, scanning the room again. The window is locked, and the bed is untouched. No phone. No Storm. My pulse explodes.
“STORM!” The shout echoes through the clubhouse. Nothing. I was already running, every instinct screaming inside of me. Kitchen, empty. Bar, empty. Nothing. “Storm!” The ol’ ladies look up.
Star frowns, stepping towards me. “What?
“Where is she?” I ask in a panicked breath.
Star blinks. “I thought she was with you in your room.”
The blood drains from my face. “No.”
Her smile instantly falls. “She went to bed, in your room,” she repeats.
Every sound disappears. The world narrows. Ghost. I needed Ghost. Now. I sprint outside, just in time to see Ghost climbing onto his bike.
“STOP!” The roar of engines drowned me out. “STOP!”
Beast looks over and Ghost frowns. “What?” he asks, his gaze narrowed.
I can’t get enough air. My lungs burn.
“Storm...”
Ghost’s face changed instantly. “What about Storm?”
I swallow hard, my voice barely working. “She’s...” The word catches in my throat. I didn’t want to say it, because saying it made it real. I look Ghost straight in the eyes. “I can’t find her.”
Silence. Absolute silence. Ghost doesn’t move; he doesn’t blink. Then his phone rings. Unknown number.
Every brother watches one, killing their engines one by one. The compound descends into silence.
Ghost answers without taking his eyes off me. “This is Ghost.”
A man’s voice drifts through the speaker. Calm. Almost amused.
“Looking for someone?”
Ghost’s face turns to stone, and my entire world falls apart.
