He kisses me. Soft this time. Tender.

Then he pulls back, and the tenderness is replaced by something harder. Colder. The rage that he banked while he was taking care of me—it’s still there. Still burning.

“I’m going to deal with him,” he says. “Once and for all.”

“Rev—”

“No.” He cups my face in his hands. “He put his hands on you. He doesn’t get to walk away from that. I don’t care what it takes or what it costs—he’s done.”

I should argue. Should tell him to let the cops handle it, or to be careful, or any of the reasonable things a reasonable person would say.

But I’m not feeling reasonable. I’m feeling loved, and protected, and utterly certain that this man will burn down the world for me if I ask him to.

“Okay,” I say quietly. “Do what you need to do.”

He kisses my forehead. “I’ll take care of everything. I promise.”

And I believe him.

CHAPTER 6

REV

Ifound him at his office.

Garrett Landscaping operates out of a small lot on the south side of town—a prefab building, a couple of work trucks, trailers loaded with mowers and equipment. It’s early, just past seven, and Niall is loading gear into his truck like he doesn’t have a care in the world.

Like he didn’t put his hands on my woman twelve hours ago.

I parked the bike and walked toward him. He doesn’t notice me until I’m ten feet away. When he looks up, I watch the color drain from his face.

“We need to talk.”

“I don’t have anything to say to you.” He tries to sound confident. Fails. “Get off my property.”

“That’s not how this works.”

I keep walking. He backs up until he hits the side of his truck, nowhere left to go.

“You touched her.” I stop close enough to see the sweat beading on his forehead. “You put your hands on her and left bruises. You’ve been stalking her for four months, making her life hell, and you thought there wouldn’t be consequences.”

“She’s overreacting. We had a conversation, that’s all?—”

“I saw the bruises.”

His mouth snaps shut.

“Here’s what’s going to happen.” I keep my voice low. Calm. “You’re going to stay away from Angel. You’re not going to go near her café. You’re not going to drive past her apartment. You’re not going to leave notes or send messages or ask anyone about her. She doesn’t exist to you anymore.”

“You can’t tell me what to do.”

“I’m not telling you. I’m explaining your options.” I lean closer. “Option one: you disappear from her life completely, and this ends here. Option two: you don’t, and I make sure you regret it for the rest of your miserable existence.”

Something flickers in his eyes. Fear, maybe. Or the beginning of the rage I’ve been waiting for.

“You think you can threaten me?” His voice rises. “You’re just some thug biker. I’m a respected member of this community. I coach kids’ soccer. I volunteer. Everyone knows me.”

“Everyone knows the mask. They don’t know what’s underneath.”
