“Don’t go.”

“I have to get up to turn down the thermostat. I’ll be right here in the room.”

She’s gone. Off the bed. So many things to say. So many things I never said when I had the threads. Now I want to and I can’t find them. Fucking words. Can’t move either. Can’t make her understand. There’s not enough time.

Fuck.

“I’m back.”

She’s back. She’s on the bed. Yes.

Spoon.

I’m the big spoon.

Good.

“Remember the thing.” I say it to the dark, but I think it’s her hair. It smells like her. It’s the nice smell.

“What thing?” she asks.

“The thing to ask me. When I wake up.”

“Okay. Penny said to let you sleep for as long as possible, so just go to sleep. Okay?”

“Yep. Night-night, Stitch..”

“Nighty-night…Stitch.”

I’m awake.

I think?

It’s dark.

Am I here?

Wait.

Where’s here?

Where’s Bridget?

Not here.

“Hey.” Her voice. It’s her voice.

“Hey. Come here.”

I can feel her hand on my hand. “Do you know what day it is?”

“Are you measuring me?”

“What do you mean?” She sounds worried.

“Always measuring me. How long did I sleep?”

“Almost eight hours.”
