“More,” I pant. “I need more.”
A familiar hum flicks to life, and he presses the tip of the vibrator to my clit, not even bothering with the smaller rabbit ears. Then he twists his fingers just so, finding the G-spot I never knew I had before today, and rubbing, rubbing, rubbing until my brain dribbles out my ears and I scream, shaking through another orgasm.
I come out of my daze once again held by Shadow. We’re on our sides, facing each other, with my head pillowed on his biceps and our legs entangled. His hand cups the swell of my hip, his fingers splayed wide.
“You weren’t kidding about the aphrodisiac,” I croak.
“I think you removed my soul using only the suction of your mouth.” He tugs on my lower lip with his thumb. “Goddess, that was more amazing than I ever imagined.”
“Wait. What?” I press a palm to his chest and crane my neck to see him better. “That was your first blow job.”
“Yes.”
My mouth drops open. I’m totally flipping speechless. A guy who looks like him and oozes sex appeal? There’s no way no one’sneverdropped to their knees for him before.
My expression must tell him something of what I’m thinking, because he shrugs and says, “I was a panther until only a couple of years ago, remember?”
“But… but…”
“My first months able to shift were spent fighting to free Faerie from the Dark God. It made a lot more sense to be a panther or werepanther.”
“But you came to Earth over a year ago,” I say. “Hasn’t there been anyone?”
“There’s been you.” He brushes my hair back and cups my cheek. “From the moment I saw you, there couldn’t been anyone else.”
The watching me constantly in town, the popping up everywhere I went, even running off the other potential roommates so I had to take him in. A part of me still worries this is all a game for him, that he keeps chasing me because I’m not easy, because I didn’t immediately give in.
But he’s been with no one?
I don’t know how to respond to his words or to the warmth filling his gorgeous green eyes, so I do the only thing I can think of and kiss him.
I kiss him and tell all of my worries to wait for tomorrow.
CHAPTER TWENTY
Kayla
Shadow’s away all the next day, delivering messages to multiple realms of Faerie. He’s let things pile up a bit while working on projects around here and needs to make up for it.
I also throw myself into my work, still riding high on all the new ideas I got from my trip to the dragon realm.
By the time he returns, it’s dark out and I’m yawning and squinting at the screen while fighting to type. He bundles me off to bed with a kiss.
When I wake the next morning, after hitting snooze several times, an insulated cup of coffee waits on my bedside table. I sit up and lean back against the headboard.
“Good morning!” Dewdrop hops over and settles on my lap. “Shadow asked me to tell you he had to leave early.”
“Thanks, sweetie.” I rub his little forehead, and he starts to purr.
I take a sip of coffee. It’s warm and sweet and chocolaty, exactly as I like it, and it makes me think of the man who made it.
I still haven’t figured out what I think about our night together. I’ve never been great at processing emotions. Maybe it’s how I’m wired, or maybe my emotionally distant parents caused it. Probably both. I’m over worrying about the cause—I just want some damned clarity.
I felt so alive with Shadow, so seen and desired. And I want him, too. But I don’t want us to be together because Victoria made us, or because it’s some kind of game. I want to know what we have is real.
The house, it seems, has a lot of thoughts, too. When I try to open the front door a half hour later, the knob refuses to turn. “Hey, what’s going on?” I spin to face the parchment, jabbing a finger toward the door. “I thought we weren’t doing this anymore.”
“You didn’t consummate after the date.”
