The stash was doable.

She could technically stay in her own apartment with it, but I didn't think I'd be able to stay away from her if there was enough space between us that another male could technically be with her.

Particularly not after I scraped that fucking enforcer's cum from her body.

What if she wanted him?

I forced myself to breathe slowly.

We had talked.

She wasn’t going to try that shit again.

She was alone in her room, across the hall from mine.

It was incredibly fucking hard to control myself when it came to her.Having her scent in the air didn't help.

I needed to clear my head.

I stalked into the bathroom, shucking my clothes as I went, and was standing under the hot water with my cock in my fist moments later.

It took no effort at all to remember the way it had felt to hold Harper's body in my arms, pinned against the wall of her shower, her bare, slick core against my abdomen.

I was coming in seconds, with a snarl and a curse, because it wasn't enough.

It would never fucking be enough.

How many times would I get off to the thought of this woman while walls stood between us?

I had never ached for sex this way before. I had never ached foranyonethis way before.

"We have a problem,"Maverick said through the pack link, and I wanted to groan.

"Because we don't have enough fucking problems?"

"The entire system at the investment company just went down. The Guild must have someone else on the inside."

Fuck.

We needed to shut that company down entirely at this point.

"Or the asshole who built it is working with them,"I said."We never found Zach. The Wilder wolves wouldn't let us onto their land."

We hadn't pushed it at the time, or since. They weren't a pack we wanted to piss off. They were basically our rural equivalent.

"Either way, we need to find him if we're going to get it rebuilt in the next century. He'll have backups or something,"Maverick said.

"There's only one way we're getting onto their land. I told you what they want."

They wanted a vampire. A stable, turned vampire, to be specific. They hadn't clarified why, or for how long they wanted them. It would be negotiated, if we ever agreed.

"They can't have Oren. Nolan leaving the pack with him would fuck with the link's stability. Our other turned vampires aren't an option either. We'll figure out another way."

There was no other way, but none of us were going to consider what they wanted.

"Just meet me in the lobby. We need to check for bodies,"he said.

My gaze flicked in the direction of the apartment across the hall from mine.
