“Two days, Klever? You said tomorrow night.”

“Sometimes deals run long. I don’t want to rush the process. Plus, I need to find the right time to talk to Supreme.”

“OK,” she said, nodding quickly to show her understanding.

“I’ll call you tonight. Order whatever you need. The keys to the car in the garage are in the bowl on the table.”

“Call me as soon as you get where you’re going,” she instructed.

“Aww, look at you caring about me.”

“Of course, I care about you, Klever. You’re my husband.”

Finally, she’d said it. I smirked, kissing her forehead and turning to leave the room before I talked myself into staying. More than anything, I needed to talk to my friend. Depending on how the conversation went, that title might have been changing soon.

I hated lying to Sage, but I felt like it was necessary. I didn’t have to be in Cashville until morning, but Jaylen had a game a couple of hours away. According to his socials, they were already in town. I had the paperwork ready for him to sign to give Sage her dance studio. I was fully prepared to buy it from them, but first I would try to reason with him to sign it over. Hopefully, he was only half the bitch I thought he was because I would hate to have to go to extreme measures to get my point across. This transition needed to go smoothly.

By the time I reached the training facility, it was close to sunset. Several cars filled the parking lot. Security was on post near the entrance. Thanks to Supreme, I had a pass, so nobody paid much attention to me as I passed through. That worked out perfectly because I didn’t need to be noticed.

It didn’t take long for me to find Jaylen. Before I could walk through the entrance, he was coming out with another player. They were laughing and talking about something. Seeing himlaugh pissed me off. He’d just served my baby the worst week of her life, and he had the nerve to be laughing and smiling like shit was sweet.

Jaylen’s smile faded when he spotted me. Good. At least he knew I wasn’t there on a friendly visit. He and his boy dapped each other up before the other guy kept going. Since the last time we were this close, I beat his ass, I shoved my hands in my pockets as I stopped in front of him. I wanted to look as unintimidating as possible.

“What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be somewhere screwing your so-called sister?”

“I never said Sage was my sister. I’m pretty sure she didn’t tell you that either.”

“That’s funny. She also never mentioned that you were married.”

“The same way you didn’t mention that you were fucking your assistant. Everybody around this bitch is keeping secrets.”

“What do you want, KD?”

“I need you to fix the studio paperwork. I can see how there must have been some mistake. They have you down as the owner.”

“That’s no mistake. Where the hell do you think she would get money to keep that place if it flopped? I was protecting her.”

“It’s crazy that you didn’t believe in her dream, but either way, it didn’t flop. She brings in enough revenue to keep that place running and offer scholarships. You should have straightened that shit out a long time ago.”

“That’s none of your damn business.”

“Everything about Sage is my fucking business,” I countered.

“Oh yeah, I forgot about all that for a second. She’s yours, right? Or at least that’s what you were screaming while you were standing in a bedroom in a house that I pay for.”

“According to the documents I saw, you haven’t been paying for shit. I guess now we know why.”

“What do you want, man? I’m not about to stand here entertaining you. We have barely said five words to each other in the past ten years, and I would like to keep it that way.”

“Oh, good,” I said, pulling the papers out of my back pocket. I extended them to him. “Let me have you sign these papers, and I’ll be on my way. We actually never have to speak again after this.”

“I’m not signing shit. I put the down payment on that building and made sure everything was running. As soon as Sage didn’t like the way shit was going, she decided to show her ass.”

“You cheated on her and got another woman pregnant. If that weren’t humiliating enough, you let that woman play on her phone and left her homeless by not taking care of your responsibility of keeping a roof over her head.”

“She’s not homeless. She’s living in a house I bought while she’s fucking another man. She’s one to talk.”

“Don’t act like you didn’t know that house has been foreclosed on.”
