“Don’t you have something to do with Dashawn and Alan?”
“Nah. I can meet with them later.”
Myome smiled up at me and threw her arms around my neck. I grabbed her hips, pulled her in, and leaned down so we could kiss.
When we pulled apart, I looked over at where Hazel, Charm, Chandler, Dashawn, and Alan were gathered.
“Ay, y’all need to find a way home,” I announced and yanked the door open for Myome to hop in while Dashawn and Alan laughed and talked shit behind us.
CHAPTER 16
MYOME
“Are you nervous?” I asked as Drix adjusted his earpiece and shifted on his feet.
“Nah.” He shrugged. “I’m kind of excited actually.” He glanced over at Charm, Alan, Dashawn, and Hazel. “How you feeling?”
“I’m good,” Dashawn said and cleared his throat.
Drix nodded.
“Good.”
We both looked out at the stage as the instrumental for Bino and Drix’s song started. He tilted his head one way then the other, leaned in and kissed me briefly, then adjusted his earpiece and walked onto the stage.
The crowd immediately went wild and a cocky, attractive smile crossed his face.
He licked his lips as he surveyed the crowd and dapped Bino as soon as he was close.
He bobbed his head to the music as it played and Bino performed his verse. He adjusted his earpiece again, lifted his microphone, and started rapping.
I’d seen Drix rap before—in the studio and in the car and on the treadmill—but this was a completely different experience.I couldn’t take my eyes off him. The crowd screeched as he crossed the stage, rapping and slightly bouncing to the beat.
My husband was fucking perfect.
There was no way he had the ear he did, the pen he did, the voice he did and the fucking stage presence he did. I’d known he was talented before I’d ever met him, and he’d proven several times over that he could produce and write hits, but seeing him on stage was mind blowing.
I knew it didn’t come naturally. I’d seen the switch up in his diet and the way he ran and rapped every night to make sure he could move and not be out of breath while performing, but he looked better than I could have imagined.
There was no way this man was going to drop an album and go on tour and not have women throwing themselves at him every night.
When he finished his verse, he walked up and down the stage shaking hands and grinning while people tried to take pictures and videos of him. He held the microphone toward the crowd while he mouthed Bino’s verse himself.
Another song they’d done together played next and Drix kept his interactions up as he rapped. When he finished his verse, he stood up fully and bobbed to the music, his arms crossed over his chest while he scanned the environment. Bino let Drix recite the chorus then they went into a verse that had a back and forth section while they moved around the stage and each other.
The next song that came on was Drix’s biggest hit. Bino slipped off stage toward us to catch his breath, get water, and let Drix have a moment. The crowd’s screams were almost deafening and I looked at the crowd while people screamed and jumped up and down. The room lit up from all the videos starting and Drix grinned while he used the microphone in his hand to hit each beat of his instrumental before his verse actually started.
He performed the entire song even though his voice was damn near drowned out from the crowd rapping along.
When the song finished, Drix gestured for the DJ to cut the music.
“Ay, I know this ain’t my concert and shit but I feel like we’re having a good time tonight. How y’all feeling?” He held the microphone toward the crowd and nodded. “Right side, how y’all feeling? Left side? Middle?” He let each section scream then nodded. “What about y’all in the back? Y’all good?” He lifted a hand to block some of the bright lights in his face. “Y’all cool if I do two more songs? One song from my old shit and one from my new shit? Y’all fucking with that?”
He waited for a beat. The crowd immediately started chanting and screaming. Drix nodded and pointed at the DJ who started an instrumental from one of his earlier hits. Dashawn exhaled, shook his hand out, and shifted back and forth while Drix performed. When the next song started, I recognized it immediately. It was a new song from Drix’s forthcoming album.
Dashawn ran out on stage as it started and Hazel took his spot beside me. I nudged her with my elbow and gave her a reassuring smile while our husbands rapped together.
Even though nobody knew the lyrics, they still bobbed to the music and recorded the entire performance.
