This time Charm and I both laughed. I exhaled.

“Can you maybe get me some water?”

“Sure. I can do that.” She scurried out of the room and I looked around.

I was annoyed that neither of us had our phones but I was hopeful I’d be in and out of here soon.

Charm came back only minutes later and we talked a bit more about how I was feeling about the Monica thing, which honestly didn’t make me that upset now that I’d sat with it.

Drix and I had been married for over a year. That meant there was no way he was the father of her baby. I didn’t believe for a second that Drix had slept with her three to four months after we’d gotten married. I would maybe have questions if it was Niecy making claims. But Monica? Hell no.

When the door was shoved open, I glanced toward the doctor and did a double take. I jerked up in bed.

“Drix?”

“Twin?” He closed the distance between us.

His hands immediately went to my face and he looked me over before he leaned in and kissed me over and over and over again.

“How you feeling? You good?”

“I’m good.” I nodded. “I’m good.”

“You sure, baby?”

“Yeah. I promise.”

“What happened?”

“I don’t know. I just… fainted again, I guess. What are you doing here?”

“The fuck you mean what am I doing here?” He looked genuinely confused. “Myome, you fucking fainted and I couldn’t get you or Charm on the phone. You could have hit yo’ fucking head for all I knew. Why wouldn’t I be here?”

“I don’t know.”

I stuck my lip out while tears threatened to fall.

I couldn’t believe Drix had somehow gotten to me in a little under two hours when my own family hadn’t visited me when I was in the same city the last time I’d ended up in the hospital.

Drix exhaled, leaned down, and kissed me yet again.

“I’m glad you’re awake,” he muttered.

“I’m glad you’re here,” I countered.

He smiled and stood back up.

“What are the doctors saying?”

“Nothing just yet but they’ve taken blood and run all the usual tests.”

“Alright. Cool.” He turned toward Charm and dapped her. “My bad for passing on you. What’s up, Charm?”

“Trust me, I get it.”

Drix exhaled. “Thanks for being with her. For real. I appreciate that.”

“Come on. You know I’ve got Myome’s back. She’s literally my sister.”
