The lead singer was a woman but her band was made up of three men on the guitar, bass guitar, and drums.
We all stood at the bar while they performed. People gravitated from the walls closer to the center of the room then forward toward the stage.
People immediately screamed the lyrics and moved around.
The lead singer bounced off the energy of the band and honestly had great stage presence.
They were four songs in before the chaos really started. I grabbed another beer while I watched it unfold.
“Damn!” Shade laughed as people crashed into each other and a mosh pit formed.
We all stayed where we were, watching it take place.
I glanced at Allison who had a huge smile on her face and was slightly moving to the music.
The lead singer tilted her head back and let out a scream that had my head snapping forward to make sure it had come out of her small body.
“Alright.” I leaned into Allison. “Do what you have to do to sign them.”
CHAPTER 32
MYOME
Ishifted in my seat and plucked up my water to take a sip. My throat was unusually dry. I set my water down then picked it back up. Drix reached over and set a hand on my knee without his eyes ever leaving his phone.
I was nervous. That was obvious.
I’d met with B. Lynn about the benefit and that meeting had gone well. She was open to the time slot we offered and had limited requests outside of making sure she was able to bring her own security and they were cleared to be there with guns. She was bright and bubbly and I was thankful for how easy she was to work with.
Chamari, on the other hand, was over thirty minutes late and I was getting anxious, thinking she may not show up for her meeting at all. She was fifteen minutes late when I texted Drix that I was getting nervous and felt like I was going to be sick.
He left the studio and was at my side in five minutes flat.
“You good?” He locked his phone and set it face up on the table.
“What if she doesn’t show?”
“Then she doesn’t show.” He shrugged. “It’s not the end of the world, Twin. Shit happens.”
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath because he was right. This benefit wasn’t even mine. I was just working on the music portion in collaboration with the actual charity. Plus, I hadn’t promoted Chamari attending. Chandler and I had made it clear that we weren’t putting out anything we couldn’t back up, and despite the reassurance given to us via email, as long as a contract hadn’t been signed, anything could happen.
We’d been right and now anything very much was happening.
I sighed and rubbed my temples. Drix squeezed my knee.
“You’re taking this too hard, Yo. Trust that it’s going to be what it’s going to be.”
“I hear you.”
“And I mean it.”
“I know.”
The door to the boardroom opened slowly and I jolted up in my seat when Steven walked in, Chamari and two men with him.
Drix and I both climbed to our feet to greet her.
“Drix.” She grinned. “Nice to finally meet you.” She reached her hand out and he looked from her hand to me.
