“Except for the fact that we just ran up on you suffocating in your front seat,” Rome deadpanned.

I glared at him and my eyebrows knitted together when I heard the sound of an ambulance closing in on us.

“I don’t have time for this shit,” I admitted. “Myome?—”

My mom cut me off. “You’re making time, Berlin. Rome, drive his car back to the house please,” she instructed.

I looked over at my baby brother. “If you touch my keys, you’ll be the one riding in that mothafuckin’ ambulance,” I warned.

Chandler sucked her teeth but walked over and snatched my keys out of the ignition.

I ignored her while I called Charm again.

“Berlin,” my father said tightly and I glanced at him, phone to my ear. “Just let them check you out, okay?”

“Look, I’ll go to a doctor as soon as I get back. I promise, but right now Myome is my priority.” I glanced at Rome. “Call Charm and keep calling her until she answers. Find out what’s going on with Myome.”

“What do you mean what’s going on with Myome?”

“I think she passed out again while we were on the phone and now I can’t get her or Charm on the phone.”

“Uh, let me run back to the house and grab my phone,” Chandler offered. “I’m sure I have Allison’s number.”

“Thanks.”

I felt my parents glancing at me but I didn’t have the attention to give them.

I dialed Bino who answered immediately.

“Drix?”

“I need your jet.”

“For when?”

“Now.” I walked a little bit away from my parents.

“Uh, I can’t?—”

I cut him off. “I’ll owe you.”

He exhaled. “I can have something for you in about thirty minutes.”

“Cool. Send me the info and I’ll be there.”

“A’ight. Give me ten minutes.”

“Thanks.”

I hung up and turned toward Dashawn.

“You’re driving.” I nudged my head toward my car. “Let’s go.”

“A’ight.” He didn’t ask any questions.

He pulled his keys from his pocket and tossed them to my mom.

“Give those to Hazel and tell her I’ll call her.”
