“Say what now?”he grunts.
Shit.I should have told him the whole thing.“With everything that happened...I lost my joy for the business. When I hired Rob it was because the store had grown bigger than I could handle and it was a choice between hiring personnel or selling.Obviously, Rob can’t work anymore and I don’t feel like hiring others. These past few weeks have opened my eyes and I watched all of Heart’s brothers chip in when it comes to the brewery.I made a suggestion to Norie and Swade and he joked about hiring me.It got me thinking.Norie’s my friend and...”
“She also handles the books, so you asked her for financial advice,” Karev finishes.“I get it.Even if I was against you buying and selling secondhand stuff it was your business.Just making sure you’re making the right decision.”
I keep my eyes on Heart when I say, “You made the right decision by sending Heart to me, and I’m not letting go.The man is my heart.”
Heart’s smile brightens my own, until it slides off my face when Karev states, “Though, I’m not going to make it to your wedding because I have an issue going on with my own future wife.”
CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE
–HEART –
Happiness makes her glow with beauty one moment, and then it slides to shock the next.Whatever Karev is telling her isn’t good.
Taking the phone from her hands, I bark into the phone, “What the fuck did you just say to my old lady?”
A sigh rips through the phone before Karev states, “I can’t attend your wedding because I’m in the middle of a crucial situation with my own future wife.”
“The fuck, man?”I snap.“You got the coins back in time. There’s no way that fucker should hold your balls in a vice to marry one of his daughters.”
“It’s complicated and hard to explain.Let’s just say it wasn’t the daughter he picked, and no one knew the consequences of having our lives cross.Seriously, you don’t want to know about the ramifications.Just the fact that I got this, okay?I can’t attend your wedding, and you can’t attend mine.I’ll swing by as soon as I can, but it will take a few weeks for shit to settle down around here.Let Lina know I’m sorry, and that I wish her all the damn luck with your grumpy ass.”
I have no clue what to say to the fucker.Karev is a huge motherfucker with muscles and a nasty attitude.I’ve seen him fight and solve shit other man would run away from. He’s not the kind to avoid confrontation and definitely won’t bow to anyone.
For him to agree to marry, even if the deal was off and the woman in question not being the daughter Calvania picked?Yeah, shit sounds complicated for sure.
Which is why I tell him, “I’m going to be very fucking pissed if you make my woman cry by dying on us.”
Karev barks out a laugh.“Don’t worry, man.The woman I’m tying myself to is ruthless, and definitely wants to keep me alive...even if she’s lethal as fuck.”
“Wow, sounds like you landed yourself a great deal,” I mutter.
“Tell me about it,” Karev grumbles.“Well, I gotta go.Let me talk to my sister once more.Oh, and congrats, brother.I knew you’d be a great choice for her.”
“Did you have a gut feeling?”I chuckle.
