“Don’t look at me. I didn’t rent the car. Ask Toya,” I said walking toward the kitchen for a bottle of water.
“I didn’t rent that. I thought that was one of y’all doing,” she replied leaving both me and Arin in confusion.
“If neither one of us rented the car, then who did?” I questioned trying to figure out what was going on and if we were truly alone. The rental wasn’t included in our package.
“That’s all me.” His voice was unique so I could make him out of a crowd of a thousand men.
Turning around, I was looking into the face of a man that would follow me to the end of time if I allowed him. His smile beamed from ear to ear, and I could feel my center beginning to soak from the memories we made hours ago. He was too damnfine and the way he handled me didn’t make the feelings I had for him fade any faster.
“What are you doing here Jason?” I inquired trying to hide my excitement.
“Following my woman and making sure she enjoys her vacation. Is there a problem?” He stared at me with alluring eyes, and I folded like a lawn chair.
“N-no.” my head dropped faster than I could respond.
“That’s what I thought. Pull up what you need to so we can do a little shopping. Are you too tired to cook? We can stop and grab some food or whatever you want to do.”
His attitude toward me hadn’t changed one bit. Those days he spent away from me were ones that allowed me to miss him. I wasn’t sure why he followed behind me, but I was glad he did.
“We can just pick up something. I’m low key ready to relax.”
“Cool. Let’s head out then.”
He made his way towards us and placed a kiss on my forehead before he exited the house, leaving us all standing there waddling in our thoughts. Once he was out of sight, they started to cut up like I knew they would.
“Ooooo, bitch!” Arin said being the first one to break the ice.
“Took the words right out my mouth. Jason is not playing with your ass. I wish Kane stepped behind me like that. He’s so damn calm you wouldn’t know he was upset if he didn’t voice it,” Arin commented rolling her eyes directly after.
My eyes were still focused on the front doorway. Jason was going to turn me every way but loose and I was going to permit it. He brought out a side of me that I hated expressing but with him, it seemed to happen naturally. He gave a leadership that made you want to follow. He was different from the rest of the niggas I wasted my time on.
“Hellooooo?” Arin snapped her fingers in front of my face to get my attention.
“Huh? What?” I asked, trying to bounce back from the temporary spell I’d fallen under.
“Oh hell no. Where the hell is my man because y’all two muthafuckas not about to make me jealous from all the lovey dovey shit y’all getting ready to be on.” She had an attitude, and I snickered off her reaction to Jay and I being around each other for the week.
“Aht, aht. Blame yourself because you gave him our information so technically, this is your doing. Now come along. My man said it’s time to head out,” I said cracking the biggest smile to date.
“Heffa,” was mumbled under her breath but I heard it clear as day.
We got into the car and began our journey through town. We hit up store after store running up a bag. Jay and I were in our own little world with him following behind me and purchasing whatever I touched. One thing I could never take away from him was his ability to spoil a bitch. He came out of pocket no matter what the cost was.
Also, the fact that I had just as much money as him wasn’t intimidating to him. He always appreciated the boss I was and never knocked me for working late or going hard for days at a time. He knew how to adjust and accommodate me. Most of the time, I found myself being pampered whenever I let him know I would be getting off work on time. He didn’t fail at doing what a man was supposed to. Maybe that was a reason why I felt safe with him.
“Can we talk tonight? I got some things I need to make you aware of,” he voiced as he wrapped his arms around my waist.
“Jason…”
I was afraid of what he wanted to say. We hadn’t said those three words to each other yet and I felt like when they were finally revealed, the dynamics of our relationship would change.I was avoiding discussions about our future altogether if I was being honest.
“You plan on fighting me the entire time? Let me know so I can move accordingly.”
“It’s not that. I just ain’t trying to do all that. I’m on vacation.”
Unwrapping his arms, he pecked the top of my head and handed me a few blue faces before he disappeared out the door. He wasn’t satisfied with my answer, and I wasn’t sure if I was either.
“What you do?” Toya asked as soon as she saw him distance himself.
