“Every time? Look, I am finally pass the bullshit you put me through, and I don’t plan on taking you back so we can avoid all of that. Can I hang up now?”

“You acting like we ain’t have a good time together. Tomorrow is Valentine's Day and I wanted to treat you. I know what I lost and I’m trying to gain it back. Allow me to do that.”

“I don’t have to allow you to do a bitch ass thing. Treat one of them hoes instead. We two months into the new year, leave me the fuck alone.”

I could feel myself getting upset so I hung up and followed through with that block I warned him about. I was trying to better myself and go for a different type of man. One that knew the value in women and didn’t have a difficult time being faithful. I knew no one was perfect but damn… wasn’t I worth monogamy?

Throwing my phone back on the bed, I continued with my task at hand. This weekend wasn’t going to be stopped or put on hold for no one. I owed myself this time to regroup and elevate mentally. My girls had always been great supporters, so I wasn’t ditching them for someone who blamed everyone and everything but himself for his fuck ups.

I watched my baby sister waddle out the house as I sat with the biggest smile on my face. She was spoiled indeed but she was such an angel. She went about having a relationship the right way and now she was starting a family of her own with someone who absolutely adored her behind. Willow was literally who several women in the town wanted to be and that was because of how well-kept she was.

Opening the door, she took the passenger seat and gave me a brief hug. She was my daughter like my child for real.

“Hey big sis. You look and smell amazing as usual,” she complimented me.

“Thank you, sugar foot. How you feeling? Does anything hurt?”

“I feel great. I’m excited and anxious to find out what we’re having. Boy or girl and I’m satisfied but if the Lord heard my prayers, he’ll give me a boy.”

I scrunched up my face because I wanted a little girl. I loved the cuteness they possessed. “Let’s hope he missed your voicemail, ’cause what?”

“I am too relaxed to have a girl. They require so much attention.”

“Look at the pot calling the kettle black. When I say you gave me hell, I could barely do anything without you wanting to be on my hip twenty-four seven. I say you need a daughter so I can get some karma.”

“Now why would you say that? You wishing things on me and I don’t appreciate that.”

“Girl, hush. You’ll be alright. Are you hungry or anything?” I pulled out of the driveway and headed for her doctor’s office.

“A little. Do you have time to eat with me after the appointment? I know you have to head up the road.”

“We can eat. I’ll make sure you’re straight before I head up. However, don’t try and keep me all day because it’s a four-hourdrive and since we’ll be in the mountains, there’s no telling what I’ll run into.”

“An hour afterward is all I need. I’ll have you back on the road by one no later than two.”

“That’s cool. I told the girls I’d be done by one so that pans out.”

Nodding, we cruised through the city in a comfortable space with the radio playing. I was content and excited for my sister. She was my motivation in a way. Her marriage was picture perfect and my goal was to gain a photo of my own. Real love was something I waited patiently to experience.

Sometimes I felt as if I was reaping karma from a past life or something because the luck I had with relationships were trash. I always ran into the men that were good at deceiving and lying. Just handsome with good dick but not a trustworthy bone in their body. I had to do better and that started with my mindset and who I allowed in my life from this weekend forward.

By the time we made it to the office, we had fifteen minutes to spare before her appointment, which meant we were right on time. I parked a good distance away from the door so that she could get some exercise in. All she did was sit in that house and wait on that man of hers. It wouldn’t hurt for her to walk a bit.

She acted as if I was out to kill her by the time we made it inside and I couldn’t do anything but laugh because she wanted front door service twenty-four seven. Her behind usually got whatever she wanted from me but not today. I took a seat as she gave the receptionist the information that was requested.

We waited patiently as I scanned the room and saw several women with protruding bellies. I was happy for any woman carrying a child. The thoughts of being a mother replayed constantly but I knew rushing it would end in a disaster. I took heed to the warning of watch who you have a baby with. Thesemen were built like boys nowadays and I didn’t want any kind of drama or negativity in my life.

“Sis. Maine!”

“Huh?” I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn’t know what was going on around me.

“They called for me. Are you coming?” she questioned.

Nodding, I followed behind her to an isolated room. My excitement picked back up as I took the seat in the corner. I sat back and allowed her and the nurse to go through whatever they needed before she left the room letting us know the doctor would be in shortly.

“Hey, is something on your mind? I’ve never seen you so zoned out before.”
