I placed all her belongings on the counter and did like she asked. I knew all she wanted was me so the fact that she didn’t take a second look at what I gifted didn’t surprise me. She was never materialistic in the first place. She had it but she preferred the simple shit in life.

She plated the food and placed it in front of me with her joining shortly after. She did her thing in the kitchen. I normally would’ve had something delivered or ordered to the crib; she outdid herself.

“’Preciate this, princess.”

“You’re welcome. So, about us… I think we should just do us. And not us like individually but as one. We know each other best so there’s really nothing more to discuss or figure out.”

“We do know each other but we ain’t never did this shit before. You’ve had relationships and I just been fuckin’.”

“Respect. That is literally all you have to give me. Everything else will follow suit. Having a successful relationship doesn’t take much. We not perfect so there will be times where wearen’t feeling each other and want to be left alone but be alone downstairs or in another room, not under someone else.”

“That won’t even be an issue. I know where I’m at and who I’m with. We good.”

“Are we really doing this? I mean, this seems surreal in every way.”

“It’s happening. You a lil’ late to the party but you got here, and we locked the fuck in. I wanted this for years, but I wasn’t going to rush you or pressure you into being with me. You had to go through yo’ own shit in order to get here and realize whose been down for you. A nigga ain’t got to walk around hurt no more.”

“Oh whatever. I am happy that we’re here for real. I didn’t think I would be able to make it through another double date. I was tired of seeing you with different women.”

“Look at it this way, my hoe days are over,” I replied causing her to stop eating and mug the fuck out of me. “What?”

“Don’t play with me, Prez. You will see a different side of me.”

I threw my hands up in surrender. I wanted no problems with her. She was feisty and could really go toe to toe with a nigga.

“I’m just trying to make you happy princess. That’s the only reason I’m in yo’ life. Feel free to kick me out at any given moment.”

“I wouldn’t dare. I prayed for us and now that we’re one I refuse to allow petty shit to get in the way. Like I said, neither one of us are perfect but we spent years hiding our true feelings and now that you know, I’m not going back in the dark. Respect is the root for us and from there the love will flow and so will the loyalty.”

“I want us and I’m praying my want transitions into a need. I dogged bitches but don’t be my karma. That’s all a nigga ask.”

“Don’t fuck me over and I won’t be.”

“Touché.” A kiss was shared, and I had a smile that went from ear to ear. “To new beginnings?” I asked holding up a glass of orange juice.

“Nah to us finally becoming one.”

Last Night

Charmaine

“As you should because once a man feels like he can control you, he will. That’s why I’m single ’cause who these niggas think they be playing with or talking to.”

“You were single last year as well Courtney, and the two years before that. I think you’re batting for the wrong team.”

“Really Dre? Why would you say that?” I asked with a shocking look. My friends were ones that spoke their minds often not caring who got offended.

While Courtney was the one that didn’t tolerate the games men played and preferred to be single, Andrea was the one that milked them for everything they had. I on the other hand loved love and wanted something real of my own.

“Nah. Dick is and always will be the only thing that gets me off.”

“Y’all mouth is ridiculous. So darn vulgar and explicit. We’re ladies remember,” I chimed in.

“Maine please. The way you flip the fuck out anytime something isn’t going your way ain’t no better,” Courtney replied.

“I only show my ass when I’m agitated. Other than that, I’m cool as a whistle.” They both looked at me like I was delusional. “What now?”

“You’re crazy if you think you’re the calm, cool, and collective one out of us. You can go from zero to a hundred quicker than anyone I know. Not sure you even realize how often you do it either.” Courtney was calling me out and I couldn’t do too much of anything but laugh because she was telling nothing but the truth. I lacked patience.
