“I can and I am. I’ll be at the house.”
I hung up and drove to the crib. I wasn’t as mad as I wanted to be because she was right. Knowing that she was able to talk to him freely and me not receive a word from him would’ve been torture. She did right but that was something that would’ve held me over. I needed to know that I was thought about and maybe the chokehold would’ve eased up.
Cam was thought about from the first day we met. I couldn’t forget that man or how content he made me. He invested in my happiness and then he took it all away in the blink of an eye. One smile from him would brighten my day and it seemed as if I had been going through the motions ever since he stepped away. Now he was back and asking for me again. I didn’t know what to do.
By the time I made it home, the afternoon was approaching. I was tired and needed to relax, not get any sleep but simply do nothing. I knew what happened last night between me and Cam was going to open more confusing doors, so I was hoping for one peaceful day. I wasn’t going to make it if I didn’t let my thoughts settle for once.
Opening the door, I walked inside to a path of roses that led to the living room. I followed it and saw Cam on one kneewaiting for me. I instantly threw my hands over my mouth and the tears fell a mile a minute. His action had me speechless.
“W-what are you doing here?”
“Mya gave me the details on how to get in. I was prepared to wait for you.”
“Cam, you need to leave. I don’t think now is the right time to talk. I have a lot to sort out.”
“We can sort it out together, Low. I was crushed five years ago when I walked away from the love of my life. However, you were never forgotten. From the first day you introduced yourself and gave me that alluring smile, I’ve been locked in ever since. I don’t deserve a second chance but I’m begging you for it. Our love has always been true and genuine. You have every right to be upset with me but I’m asking for you to be upset with me as my wife. Don’t let a nigga off the hook until we’re fifty for all I care but do it as my wife. I can’t allow you to be anyone else’s but mine. I created heartbreak for you but I’m the only one that can mend you and love you the way you’re supposed to be loved. I came back to claim what I’ve missed out on for years at a time. I owe you babies, happiness, and peace. Marry me so I can fulfill my duties to you as a man, husband, and best friend.”
He said everything right. I was no longer juggling the idea of us or moving on. I was locked in on being his wife. For years I tried to get him out of my head, and I never succeeded. No one else provided me with the ingredients I needed, and he knew it. I was made for him and that was the reason I was a mess without him. I would go crazy sitting up in my room thinking of him and now I knew why. Cam was my end game and life wasn’t going to allow me to be happy if it didn’t include him.
“You promise to never leave me again? Wherever you go I want to be right there by your side. I don’t care where it is, I can’t take another dose of heartbreak, Camden.”
“Wherever I go, my wife will be by myside. I’m here to stay beautiful. I can promise you that.”
Nodding while releasing the pain, I gave him my hand and a diamond ring was placed on it. I was giving the same reaction to him that my mother gave to me. I wanted to go against my heart but that would’ve caused me more pain. I knew where I was supposed to be.
Pulling me into his arms, he placed his lips on mine and we shared a kiss that sealed us as one. I felt joy course through my veins as I accepted him back into my life. I loved that he said I could still be upset with him because I was, but I was going to do it as his wife.
“Happy Valentine’s Day, Low. I love you.”
With the biggest smile on my face, I replied, “I love you, too, Camden.”

“And I’m gon’ throw as much ass as I can to that nigga. Bitch it’s the weekend to be a hoe without being judged.” I shook my head at my good friend Malika’s response. She was very much ratchet, but she was genuine.
“Malika why must you have a new man every other month. It’s okay to settle down and be happy you know.” I loved her to death, but she was as wild as they came.
“Not everybody can have a fairytale story Vee. You and Kase were pretty much made for one another. He actually comes home at night while the last nigga I laid up with had options on where he wanted to sleep. I’m good with doing me.”
“How about we change the type of man you’re interested in and go for another type?”
“Uh, no ma’am. There are hood niggas out there that knows how to treat a lady. I just have to find him. In the meantime, I’m going to keep running through these niggas house like the Tomb Raider.”
I chuckled at her reference to Megan Thee Stallion. Malika was a beautiful woman and if I had someone for her, I would introduce her but the men in my life were players, and shedidn’t need that. She needed someone who came with the right intentions and gentleman ways.
“I can see if Kase has any work friends that are available for you?”
“I don’t want no corporate nigga friend. I will for sure fuck that man over. I’m too player for a suit and tie.”
“What you are, is single and needs to get with someone who can provide and like you saidcome home every night.”
“I’ll pass. However, I wouldn’t mind riding on Prez’s train. That nigga is fine.”
Prezidence was my best friend and other half of my heart. He’d been in my life since we were in the sandbox and knew me in and out better than my own parents. He came from the streets but was making it in the corporate world. He gave you Prezidence in the office and Prez outdoors. He was the best part of my day sometimes.
It didn’t help that he was a beautifully sculpted chocolate man with a charismatic aura. He was every woman’s dream man with perfectly aligned teeth and dimples to compliment his smile. When he looked at you, your knees buckled and when he spoke, a chill was sent throughout your body stopping at your center creating a tingling sensation. Yeah, my best friend had it like that.
