"Come on, Daryl, I want to spend time with you, too!" Candace called as we walked past the stairs.

I felt the hitch in his step, the moment he wasn't sure if it was worth stopping for her. Then he kept going.

"I'll be there in a sec."

She growled, a silly omega growl, but it sent spikes of irritation through me. I wanted to attack her, tear her to pieces… but I had to behave.

In the kitchen, Daryl opened the fridge and peered around. "There's not much. I guess we ate everything while she was in heat."

I opened the cupboard and found a tin of mushroom soup pushed to the back. Leaning against the counter, I opened it and grabbed a spoon.

"Straight from the can? Cold?" Daryl shuddered.

"Well, when you haven't eaten in four days, it's amazing what you'll put up with."

He shifted guiltily. "I could order groceries if you want?"

"You don't know what Candace needs for her meals," I sighed. "I'll do it."

When I finished with the can of soup, I already felt a little stronger. But just looking at the counter and sink piled high with dishes made me want to go straight back to bed.

"DARYL!" Candace called.

He jerked. "She's really pissed, I can feel it in the bond."

"I don't care," I said honestly. "Just fuck off and I'll do what I always do and deal with it."

He paused long enough to run his knuckles down my face, then he was gone. And I was left with a huge mess to clean up.

Imprisoned

That night was when everything got infinitely worse.

Candace ran crying to Jake as soon as he got home, to tell him how I'd tried to steal Daryl from her. I was sitting in my room, staring at the wall and planning the next little space in the tree branches when my door flew open and Jake stood there with Candace smirking behind him.

"Get up. Pack meeting right now." He paused a moment, frowning as he scanned the walls. "What the hell is this?"

"This is what it looks like when you lock someone in their room most of the day every day."

"Don't get snarky with me, omega." He jerked his head. "Living room."

I trailed after the two of them and found Daryl and Rory already sitting in the living room. I sank onto one of the armchairs and waited.

Candace snuggled into Daryl's lap and looked at me with a self-satisfied look. She was marking her territory and knew thatDaryl was the only one with a soft spot for me. Not that it mattered. I would never forgive him for not standing up for me.

"First, I want to apologize for the mishap in locking your room during Candace's heat," Jake said, so harshly that it didn't feel remotely like an apology. "You weren't meant to stay in there without food."

I stayed silent, arms crossed over my chest.

"Second, I happened to look out the window and saw you outside while we were all occupied."

"It smelled in the house," I muttered.

"That's no excuse. You know you're not allowed out."

"Not even in the backyard? No fresh air?" I glared at him.
