"Thank you." I kissed his forehead as I got up to head down for Dean.
Chapter twenty-two
Bitten
Ihurt Olivia.
The words pounded in my brain. I could feel the bond, but it was overwhelmed with the guilt that filled me to the brim. My mate. My scentmatch. And I'd nearly torn her apart with my teeth.
Her tart, slightly minty taste still coated my teeth, despite Kienan wiping the blood off my face. Her blood. My mate's blood. Fuck!
"It would have happened sooner or later," Kienan told me. He set a mug of tea in front of me. As if that would help anything.
"You did this," I snarled. "You brought her into a house with two feral alphas and you didn't protect her."
"This was the plan all along. You went about it a little poorly, but she'll be alright. Vale is stitching her up right now," he assured me.
"It's not okay, you fucking asshole. Just because you wanted us to claim her doesn't mean it's okay to rip her apart while I'm out of my mind!"
Kienan blew out a breath and grabbed his own cup of tea. "I get it. I know you're upset and you didn't mean to hurt her, but let's stop and look at this logically, okay?"
I glared at him, but it didn't phase our leader.
"Our pack was about to fall apart. You, Vale, you're both at the end. An omega was the only way to stop this and we got lucky with our scentmatch," he said. "This was not how you wanted it to go down, but now you'll be better. Hopefully, this bond will be just what you need to stay sane and I'm pretty sure even Olivia will forgive you for that."
"It's not about her forgiving me. She's my mate. I never should have hurt her," I told him sadly. The man was oblivious and I didn't know how to get through to him.
There was a noise on the stairs and when I turned, Olivia was there, her shoulder heavly padded with bandages. The sight of the white gauze against her pale skin made me want to vomit and I turned my eyes away from her.
"Dean?" Her voice was small and light, just like her. It made my heart ache.
"Stay away from me," I rumbled. "I hurt you. It could happen again."
"I don't think so." She walked straight to me without fear and climbed into my lap, pressing my soaked pants into my skin. "I know you weren't yourself. I'm fine, so don't feel bad. You can feel me in the bond, right?"
I shook my head, pulling away from her gentle touch. "I don't want to. I don't deserve to feel you or touch you ever again."
"Stop it, Dean!"
Olivia reared back and slapped me hard across the face, sending my head to the side.
"What the fuck?" Vale came leaping across the room, looking close to feral himself.
"There, now we're even. Happy?" Olivia sat back and glared at me.
"We're not even. I tore your flesh open! With my teeth!" I glared at her. "We're not even until you do the same to me."
She tilted her head. "Fine. Take off your shirt."
"What?"
"Take. Off. Your. Shirt. You want a bite, I'll give it to you. I'll even make it hurt, though I'd rather not."
Something pulsed deep inside me. She wanted to bite me back?
Slowly, keeping my eyes on Olivia, I peeled my shirt off over my head. It was soaked in her blood and it had seeped through to my skin.
Olivia trailed her fingers over my chest, running them across the scars as she prepared herself. I could see in her eyes, she was deciding where to sink her little teeth in.
