"I was size ten."
"Vale, grab the tape measure."
A minute later, I was standing in the middle of the living room as Vale carefully measured me. "Size two. You didn't drop a couple of sizes," he scolded. "That's four sizes!"
Shrugging, I sank back onto the couch. "I was on a lot of special diets. I'd make lobster and steak for the alphas and my plate would be salad with boiled chicken."
"Never again," Kienan swore.
"Well, you need clothes that fit now, but we're going to feed you and then buy you a whole new wardrobe," Vale stated. He leaned over and tapped the button on Zephyr's phone, swiped back and added another pajama set in dark blue with rainbow hearts all over it. Then he picked another set that was just pink and blue striped in simple cotton. "For hotter nights."
They were just as pushy about my other clothing and once Zephyr and Vale had managed to add at least a dozen shirts and half a dozen pants to the order, Vale switched to underwear.
"Look, midnight blue!" he crowed, adding three bra and panty sets to the cart. A few minutes later, he'd stocked me up on pretty underwear and bras before going to choose socks. "No more running on gravel."
The last thing was a pair of shoes, but of course, they went overboard, getting me sandals, two pairs of sneakers, and a nice pair of ballet flats that would work well if I ever needed to look more elegant.
"We forgot a dress!" Vale gasped. "Wait, do you wear dresses?"
"I could."
We found a couple of sundresses and one more elegant design before I declared the whole shopping trip over. "You're spending too much money."
"It's not too much when you need these things," Dean pointed out. "As your alphas, it's our job to provide for you."
"Even if I can't provide anything in return?" I asked bitterly.
Vale growled, low and threatening. "You never have to prove your worth, little one."
Chapter nineteen
Proof
Ihadn't sunk into the fog at all today. Just being around Olivia was making a difference, and though part of me wanted to just scoop her up and hold her on my lap all the time and carry her around, I knew it wouldn't be appreciated. Yet.
After our little online shopping spree, I did some shopping of my own. We couldn't take her out in public, but I had some courting to do and I meant to do it very well. Better than Dean. I'd seen him looking up flower delivery. Flowers. She didn't need flowers, she needed normalcy and care.
My special items would arrive the next day, but I needed help. Feral alphas couldn't leave the house without a chaperone. It was a rule Kienan had made last year after Dean had a very public rage situation at a gas station. So, in order to carry out my plan, I needed some help. My go-to was Kienan, since he and I tended to be closer. But he was acting oddly today and I wasn't sure he was the right choice.
I managed to corner Zephyr after lunch and jerked my head to the back porch. He followed me out and we settled in the outdoor chairs. The wind was brisk today, but notuncomfortable. We should have gotten her a jacket. I'd lend her mine, I decided.
"Did you just want to look at the lawn or did you have something to say?" Zephyr asked.
"I want to take Olivia on a picnic."
"Sure, that's a great idea."
"But I can't take her alone," I pointed out. "And Kienan is acting weird, so would you be our chaperone?"
"We can't take her anywhere she might be seen," he reminded me, "But, sure."
"I want to go to the lake. Remember that little stream we found a couple years back?"
"Vaguely. That would be a good remote spot, though. Just let me know when."
"Saturday around eleven?"
He nodded. "I'll be there. You seem really lucid today, Vale."
