My eyes narrow on him as he finds the appropriate documents, handing them over to me. I don’t look at them. I keep my eyes on him. The papers remain suspended between us, his arm outstretched while I make no move to take them. The longer I leave him standing there, the more uncertainty creeps across his face. Out of the three members of Ars Mortis, Dominicwas the only one that left me with a more permanent reminder of their torment and betrayal.

Sasha’s wounds were all mental. As were Holden’s. But Dominic… He carved a piece from me. A piece I’ll carry for the rest of my life.

“You aren’t really sorry though, are you, Dominic?” I mutter bitterly.

His forehead draws down in a frown. He goes to open his mouth, but I stop him, closing the distance between us and placing a single finger against his lips.

“No, no. It is my time to speak.”

His eyes ignite, the pheromones in his scent following behind them. Interesting. The Alpha likes it when I’m the one in control.

Let's see how he likes it when I take everything from him.

“You see, you weren’t sorry when you sided with Sasha in his plot to ruin my life. You weren’t sorry when you broke into my apartment and obliterated my nest. Not when you made every single decision I made just that little bit harder.”

I press into his hard body, keeping my eyes firmly on his. His breath catches. The muscles beneath his shirt tense beneath the smallest amount of contact, his scent turning richer, heavier, until it almost clings to the back of my throat.Hm.The way his body reacts to mine wasn’t what I expected when I walked in here. I don’t even know what I expected, certainly not this. The evidence of his arousal presses against my stomach, coaxing me to keep going. To take and take until there’s nothing left of him.

Too bad he won’t be getting any relief from me. He has a pack for that.

I’m merely…experimenting.

“And there certainly wasn’t any regret when you carved your name into my skin. Was there, Dominic?”

He doesn’t speak. I don’t think he could even if he tried. Instead, he just shakes his head once, the movement almost imperceptible as shame settles over his beautiful features.

A beautiful mess. That’s what he is.

At least he’s aware of how fucked up he was. How wrong it was for him to do that to me. Especially when it had all been a lie. A lie I foolishly bought into. Not anymore.

I hum, bringing my fingers up his chest, allowing them to dance along the hard planes of muscle I can feel even through the barrier of his shirt. His breathing hitches beneath my touch once more, but I don’t mistake it for confidence. Because right now, he has none.

No. That was surrender.

“No, I didn’t think so.” I let my hand linger for one final heartbeat before dropping it to my side. Taking a few steps back until I meet the bench behind me, I lift myself to sit on the edge. I cross one leg over the other, making myself comfortable while he remains rooted exactly where I left him.

“I’m sorry, Lennon,” he finally mutters. The sound is weak and empty. Broken. Pathetic.

I hum, tilting my head to the side. He looks so fucking tragic. It’s a pity, really. Alphas think they’re the ones in control, and out in society, they are. But in here? He’s not the one calling the shots. I am. And I shoot to kill.

“See, there’s that word again. Sorry. Except, I don’t think you are. And that bullshit attempt at an apology is doing nothing for me.”

“Tell me what will earn your forgiveness. Tell me what I need to do to get you to forgive me…for everything. Please. For the part I played in breaking you.”

I chuckle darkly, shaking my head. “Oh, sweet Alpha. You didn’t break me. You forged me.” I hold his gaze, refusing to let him look anywhere else.

Holden responds to kindness. To patience. To guilt. It’s who he is. It’s who I am. He’ll tear himself apart long before anyone else ever has the chance.

But, Dominic…he isn’t built that way. He’s different from their Beta. Alphas don’t have the same ingredients as Holden and I do. He understands power. Consequence. Hierarchy. He spent months trying to dominate me, however covertly. He believed submission was something that could be taken instead of given.

Now it’s my turn to teach him the difference.

There’s only one way a man like him will get the message loud and clear, and that’s by sending the message.Loud. And. Fucking. Clear.

Dominic’s eyes brighten, and he nods.

“I can see that, Omega. You are fucking spectacular.”

I chuckle. I fucking know. That’s the one thing that’s come out of all of this. I now know exactly who I am. What I am worth. What I am willing to accept, and more importantly, what I’m not willing to accept. Our paths may be destined, but that doesn’t mean I can’t enact my own revenge.
