At least one of us stands a chance, I’m guessing.

By the time they leave, I’m resigned to life carrying on, business as usual, and as we head out of the cafeteria, Razor grunts, “I’m sorry, darlin’.”

To be honest, the list is endless, and I wonder what he’s sorry for this time.

I say nothing, and he sighs. “I can’t be the man you deserve, but if it’s any help, I really want you to stay.”

I suppose that’s as good as it gets with him.

He wants me to stay.

That must have taken a superhuman effort, and I merely nod. “You and me both, honey.”

His hand finds mine, and I blink back the tears because we are now on the farewell tour that ends in two weeks unless a miracle happens.

He says huskily, “What are your plans for today?”

“I haven’t any.”

My life sucks. It’s an endless round of working, fucking and hoping for more. I expect this will be the same, and I steady my nerves for another day in bed with this man.

“We could ride out. Take a picnic and lose ourselves for the day.”

I blink away my surprise.

“I’d like that.”

He nods and says gruffly, “Go and get your things. I’ll grab some food for the picnic and meet you by the bike.”

“That sounds great, um, thank you, honey.”

Once again he says nothing, and as we part ways, I consider this a win.

CHAPTER 35

RAZOR

Ihave a lot to make up for. Sunday is hurting. It was obvious all through breakfast. She has lost her inner sparkle, and I’m the man responsible.

I don’t want her to leave. I meant what I said, but I respect her too much to ask her to give up her dream for more of the same with me.

So, my decision was to make these two weeks count. To pack a lifetime of memories into a short space of time and hope for a fucking miracle.

I do as I said and grab some food and drink in a rucksack to stow on the bike.

I have the perfect place in mind, too. It’s off the beaten track and nobody goes there. It’s my preferred escape route when I want to be alone. As it turns out, today I want to be alone with her.

For once she is waiting when I get there, and my heart somersaults as always when she smiles at me. She is wearing jeans paired with a white top and the Reaper jacket. Her silky hair is pulled back in a ponytail, and her eyes sparkle when I reach her.

“I’m excited.”

Her smile is a genuine one, and I breathe a sigh of relief.

“You’ll love it.”

I stow the bag and reaching for her, pull her close, my greedy lips finding hers, giving me the energy to get through the day. I want her so badly, but I also want to give her the world. Her needs come way above mine, and if she’s happy, then so am I.

She kisses me back with passion, her fingers tangling in my hair, and I resist the urge to drag her back to my room for a sweetener before we ride.
