“Cam-” I whirled to find him behind me. Kneeling. And he was gazing up at me with the softest, most tender expression on his flushed face.
“Jinx,” he said, and I grew even more perplexed.
“Jinx?” I echoed, brows quirking.
Suddenly, the tell-tale flash of black appeared between us, and Jinx’s adorable little form was flapping away. He didn’t stay long however, before he chirped in greeting, dropped a tiny box into Cam’s upturned palm, and disappeared. Jinx didn’t usually summon himself. What was going...
I gasped, shovel plopping to the ground as I stared down at what Cam was holding out to me. There, nestled in the small velvet box, were two matching rings.
They were black as the night surrounding us but still seemed to glitter as if delicate flakes of jewels were embedded within. One was slightly larger than the other, and goddamn if the sight didn’t immediately bring tears to my eyes.
When I finally pulled my gaze from the rings to take in Cam’s face, his mouth was trembling slightly in a shaky, nervous smile. His hands were wobbling too as he held the box out in front of him, looking up at me all lovingly and shit. I certainly hadn’t been expecting this, so I was still reeling, left completely dumbstruck. It was nothing new. Ever since I’d first seen Cam, I had been completely besotted with him.
He was always surprising me and sweeping me right off my clumsy feet.
But shit, I’d intended to propose to him first, damnit! I’d gottenhima ring and everything too! Not matching ones, so his were inarguably better.
“Vic,” he began in a quiet, unsteady voice. “Will you- Oof!”
I cut him off as I tackled him to the ground.
We were a tangle of scarves and limbs as I plastered myself to Cam’s big, muscular body. My arms wrapped around his neck, and I knew that I was squeezing too tight, but he didn’t object. His own arms merely circled my waist, pinning me securely to his front. His deep, rumbly laugh vibrated through to mychest as I physically felt the happiness washing over both of us. It made a rush of heady excitement and pure joy take over every part of my body, electrifying me.
I leaned up just enough to take in his now disheveled appearance, lips parted and hair askew. A few leaves had snagged in those raven locks, but I left them there. He looked too damn cute.
The smile on my face was so wide it nearly hurt, and a few of those happy tears escaped, landing on his cheeks.
“Yes,” I whispered. “Yes, Cam. Yes!”
I didn’t hesitate before planting my mouth on his soundly in a tongue-tangling, mind-numbing, breathtaking kiss. I only pulled up for air once I felt myself going slightly light-headed.
He looked thoroughly wrecked, in the best possible way, when he rasped, “I didn’t even get to ask you properly.”
I cleared my throat, licking my lips to savor the taste of him there.
“Sorry. Sorry, go ahead.”
I was still grinning like a loon.
He huffed but his smile never faltered. His one broad warm hand reached up to cup the side of my face, thumb trailing lightly over my bottom lip.
“Marry yourself to me, won’t you Victor?”
I full on squealed like a teenage girl at a boyband concert and kissed him again, nodding my head emphatically.
“Yeah. Yes. Definitely,” I breathed and he moaned against my lips. “Fuck yes, Cam.
The rush of want consumed me as he kissed the laughter from my lips. I nearly pinched myself as a small part of me still thought this was some coma-induced dream after yet another failed experiment once again blew up on me. But no, this was no dream. Cam was real, our love was real, and such blissful happiness was truly an intoxicating thing.
Even better, this was only thebeginning.
EPILOGUE:
Secrets will out.
“HAH!” I CHEERED. “TAKE that, Sylvia!”
I propped my now grimy hands on my hips proudly as I scanned the dim, dust-entombed space of the secret attic of our house.
