I didn’t hold it against them, it’s not their fault I’m married to my work.
I’m the only one out of the four of us that craves the chaos of this life.
It’s not just because I love the fame, the money and doing what I enjoy the most in the world. It’s not even the parties and the women throwing themselves at us. All of that is nice, don’t get me wrong, but my needs are more of a way to keep my mind busy and off of her.
“Yeah, well we’re millionaires and I’m only twenty-one. We’re young. We should be having fun. What's the point of having it all when you can’t even take the time to enjoy it?”
“Well, now you can,” I point out.
“Yeah, in the middle of winter.” He rolls his eyes. “As much as I’m excited to see my mom, I’m not looking forward to the cold. Couldn’t we spend our time off with the guys in Spain?”
“We can during the last week, but I promised my Dad and stepmom I’d spend some time with them. I haven’t seen them in years.”
Unlike Max, whenever we had the odd time off, I chose not to come back home to visit. It’s not that I hate it here, or that I didn’t want to see my family.
It’s because I knew if I was around her, I’d have gone out of my mind.
What no one but Max knows, is that I’ve been in love with my stepsister for years. An Omega who I was never meant to have.
She’s the one and only person in my life who’s off limits.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve had the biggest crush on her, even way back before I became an Alpha.
It started when I was thirteen and the hormones kicked in. She was beautiful, every man's wet dream. And she lived down the hallway from me.
She was twenty-two at the time, there was no way in hell I stood a chance. I was just a kid to her.
That didn’t stop all the dirty thoughts I’d have of her. Not to mention her perfume was intoxicating, and that was before it could really have any effect on me.
As I got older, I tried to date other girls, to enjoy being a teenager. I was in a band, girls thought that was hot.
But any time I was with another girl, it didn’t feel right. They weren't who I wanted.
Gia was the only person my heart wanted.
I thought maybe because I was going to turn eighteen, be an adult, a man, I might be able to have a chance with her.
But then she left before I could do anything about it, taking a break from teaching here to go overseas to teach in Africa.
And I was about to go on a world tour.
It wasn’t our time then, and now I understand it never will be.
She’s nine years older than me, a high school teacher and my stepsister.
I’ve only been her kid brother in her eyes, just because I was head over heels for her, it didn’t mean she would magically change her mind about me.
I didn’t want to risk her hating me if I were to confess my feelings.
So I left. I went on tour, I built a life for myself.
I was fine for a while, but as time went on, I started to feel lonely and empty.
Max was there for me at my darkest times. If it wasn’t for him, I don’t know if I’d still be here.
I sought comfort with him. Our closeness went from best friends to something more. We started hooking up, because the idea of being with random Omegas at the time put me off.
Our feelings grew into something more than just physical. As of the past year, we’ve been in a relationship.
