The manager swallows and looks nervously at Jade seated next to him.“I’m not sure.”

Locke looks at me.“Locate that manager.”

I nod and get up to leave the room.If I want to find the manager, I think I’ll have faster luck tracking down the VIP guest first.

Once I have that room number, I take the elevator to the third floor and knock firmly on the door.

The door swings open and a woman with mussed hair rushes giggling from the room with her head lowered. She’s straightening her resort uniform as she races down the hall to the elevator.

Wearing a loosely tied robe, the VIP guest leans against the door. He’s clearly naked under the robe.

His gaze rakes over my body.“You’re not room service and I want to be serviced.”He grins like he thinks he’s hard to resist.

I’ve met his kind before in Doug’s circle of friends. They think because they have plenty of money, whatever they want, they can have.

“Is there a problem?”Another man, also in a robe, appears in the doorway.

First robe guy thumps him on the chest.“Yeah, Ken, there is.This woman interrupted me.”

Ken pats his shoulder.“I’ll handle it.”He steps into the hallway.“Who the fuck are you?”

“I’m—” is all I have time to get out before he waves his hand dismissively.

“It doesn’t matter what your name is.You need to understand who you’re dealing with.”

He’s sizing me up.My heart begins to hammer at the look in his eyes.“I think it would be best if you get dressed before we continue this conversation.”

He scowls, his face flushing dark red.“What the fuck did you say to me?Don’t tell me what to do.”He jabs his index finger hard into my shoulder.“Know your damn place.I don’t know who hired you, but I run this resort.”He jabs me again.

I swat his hand away, but he advances, crowding me and lifting his hand to go for a third jab.I knee him and he drops to the floor with a pained grunt, rolling around clutching his junk.

The elevator dings and Jade steps out onto the floor. She looks at me with wide eyes.“What have you done?”She crouches to check on Ken.

Feeling nauseated and lightheaded, I turn away from the scene and stride to the elevator, pressing the buttons as fast as I can.

The doors whisper open.

The dizziness intensifies and I put my hand against the side of my head.

Locke is standing in the center of the elevator saying something to me, but the sound is underwater. And it swallows me.I sink into it hearing him call my name as I black out.

Chapter Five

Locke

“Idon’tcarewhoKen’srelated to.”I pace the floor in the presidential suite as I speak with the general manager.“He’s fired along with every employee who condoned his behavior.Ban that VIP guest permanently and make it fucking happen now.”

I disconnect while the man is in the middle of apologizing.

Apparently, the robe boys had a habit of treating the Montclair resort like they owned it.

VIP’s dear old dad had hoped giving his son freedom would enlighten him and help his only heir straighten up and magically turn into a decent human being.

But according to several employees I’d questioned, in addition to wanting his room comped during his stays, he had a nasty temper and would often get physical when angered. Then his dear old dad would pay to make the situation disappear.

That’s the way it often goes for spoiled, lazy heirs. When money does the talking there’s no accountability and they continue to get off on the abuse of power.

He didn’t get away without repercussions this time, though.Seeing Salem collapse filled me with rage. While the doctor was examining Salem, I beat the hell out of both of those assholes.
