Because I betrayed him. Because I stole from him. Because I know too much. And the funny thing is, I haven't even seen what's on the damn drive.
Ivan doesn't know I'm in trouble. I didn't exactly have time to call him before they grabbed me.
And Victor...
Even if he's alive and somehow survived the ambush, he has no reason to come for me.
I stole from him. I left him. I gave him every reason to hate me.
Why would he risk his life to save me?
The answer is simple.
He wouldn't.
No one is coming to save me.
The car comes to a full stop, and I hear the doors open.
A hand grabs my arm, hauling me upright.
I don't fight.
What's the point?
The only thing left for me to do is pray Dimitri ends all this quickly.

VICTOR
The villa sits at the highest point of the street, perched on the cliff's edge. I crouch low as I approach, my legs burning from the climb, my breath steady despite the adrenaline flooding my system.
As I get closer, I see two guards standing near the front gate, cigarettes in hand. They're talking, laughing about something.
I come up and duck behind a large tree, pressing my shoulder against the rough bark. I lean around the trunk just enough to get a better view, my eyes scanning the exterior of the villa.
Once I'm satisfied, I lean back and rub my jaw, the stubble scratching against my palm.
There are two guards at the front, three more patrolling the perimeter, and that's all I can see from the exterior.
But Dimitri Volkov is inside that house. Which means God only knows how many men are swarming the inside. Ten? Twenty? More?
My hand drifts to my gun as I ask myself the question I already know the answer to:What would I normally do in this situation?
The answer is obvious.
I wouldn't be here, and I sure as hell wouldn't go in alone.
Nor would I be attempting to breach a fortress without proper intelligence, blueprints, and an extraction plan. I certainly wouldn't be trying to penetrate a heavily guarded estate with nothing but a handgun, a silencer, and a few spare magazines.
I'd have a team, my brothers for sure. And I'd have surveillance with options.
But I don't have any of that, and I knew that before I got out of the taxi.
Yet here I am.
My thoughts shift to that piece of shit.
