“Absolutely nothing.” I laugh.
“Don’t lie to your mother, Alfie,” Mom scolds.
“She’s the CEO of the Olive Group. She’s in town trying to purchase some buildings. I’m preventing those sales from going through.”
“Why?”
“Because we don’t want or need the Olive Group moving into town,” I explain. “Now, tell me all about this event of yours.”
“You’re really that interested?” Mom eyes me skeptically.
“Yes,” I lie.
“Great, then I can expect to see you there on Saturday night, and you can drag your brother along with you.”
Chapter Three
Islam my laptop closed with more force than intended.I do that a lot, I guess. Then I pick up my bag, shove the computer inside it, and storm out of the coffee shop. The cup and muffin that were delivered to my table, which I didn’t order, left untouched.
The second I saw him and his cocky, overconfident, assholish smirk, I knew he was fucking with me by sending those over.Screw him. Alfie Giuliani will not intimidate me. I don’t care what the rumors say about him and his family. I came here to get those buildings, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do.
With a renewed purpose and a slightly pissed-off attitude, thanks to one asshole who thinks he owns a damn city, I walk out of the Royal Flush Casino and straight onto the Strip. The properties I’ve been eyeing are only a block away from here. That’s why Angus booked us suites at the Royal. Well, that and, in his words, why not stay in the enemy’s house?
Now though, after having the enemy buy me a coffee and a muffin, I wish I had insisted on staying somewhere else. Anywhere else. Damn him. I will not let that man take up any more time in my brain. I shake my head, my steps quickening as I make my way down the street.
I pull my phone out and send Angus a message.
Me:
I’m going to see a man about a building.
Angus:
Which man?
Me:
Mr. Davids.
Angus:
Going straight for the big one. I like your style, boss. Want me to catch up?
Me:
No. Stay there and keep digging. Something has to come up about one of these men soon. Nobody is squeaky clean.
Angus:
I’ll find something.
Shoving my phone into my pocket, I walk into the building that will soon be mine. Mr. Davids’s office is on the top floor. Surprisingly, there’s no security to go through to get up there.
I stop at the reception desk and mask my features.Look like you belong and you will.“I’m here to see Mr. Davids,” I say in a confident tone.
The girl looks up at me. “Do you have a meeting scheduled?”
“Would I be here if I didn’t?” I raise a brow, as if to say what a stupid question you just asked.
