I wanted a chance to talk to my bride.

The rejection was a new thing for me. I’m not used to being brushed off like that and, strangely, I liked it.

Before she could have a chance to escape, I remembered what my dad said about her mark and the first time I touched her. I had to have some sort of claim on her.

When I left the coffee shop, I didn’t go very far. I watched her walking off and noticed that she was in pain, but I wasn’t sure from what. When I knew she was safe at home, I left to go back home as well.

In a flash, I am back in the main rooms of the house.

My brothers and father are all waiting there for me with eager looks on their faces.

“Well, how did it go meeting my daughter?” my dad asks with excitement in his eyes.

“She rejected me,” I state, making everyone look at me in shock.

“I told you she would be immune, and that you would have to work for it,” my dad says with a shrug.

“That’s right. I just wasn’t sure I believed you until I met her,” I reply.

“Well, anything else you can tell us?” my brother Jasper asks.

“She looked like she was in a hurry to get away from me. I touched her, and then when she was leaving it looked like she was in pain. I told her I would see her next time.”

“The mark would be changing to the family symbol, so it might have hurt her while it happened. I’m certain the pain will fade,” my dad says.

Anger takes over me. “Why didn’t you tell me it would hurt her?” I snap at him.

“Because then you wouldn’t have touched her right away. It’s a momentary thing and it will be gone; she won’t feel that pain again,” my dad says, grinning over at me.

“I don’t like the thought of her hurt or in pain. I know I only just met her, but she’s mine,” I spit out.

My dad gives me a smug expression.

“Of course, she’s your bride. Once you tell her about us and everything, you can bring her down here to meet the family,” he states.

I look at him with a shocked expression.

“Meet the family? I couldn’t even get her to sit and have coffee with me! I wouldn’t be surprised if I couldn’t get her to meet the family for years,” I exclaim.

“You just need to work on your game, bro,” Otis says with a cheeky smile.

“Our brother obviously doesn’t have any game. He’s the fucking sin of lust. He’s never needed game,” Fredrick says with a laugh.

“Maybe you should show up at her door with flowers,” Gareth says thoughtfully.

“That won’t do,” Jasper says while shaking his head with a sigh.

“And why not?” Gareth asks, looking at Jasper, offended.

“Because if he shows up at her door, he’s going to look like a stalker. She will freak out and likely move,” Jasper says.

“So, then he just follows her,” Gareth says simply.

Jasper rolls his eyes. “Yeah, that won’t make him look like a stalker. Follow her around the world because she’s trying to get away from you.”

I look over at my dad, and he’s rubbing his face with his hands. “How did I raise boys who don’t know how to pick up women?” he asks before letting out a disappointed sigh.

“We never had to try. They came running to us,” Leopold says with a smirk.
