“You’re fucking crazy,” he shouted.

I smiled. “So what if I am?”

Ray went to open his mouth, but I lowered my aim to his dick, shutting him up.

The sun slowly peeked from behind the dark clouds, warming up my skin as it shone down on us. “Ahh!” I closed my eyes, feeling its rays touch my face. “The sunshine is back. No more storm clouds.” I looked back at Ray and smiled, exposing my bloodied teeth. “I’m going to head home now. Andyouaren’t going to follow me.”

He nodded, seemingly too scared to move.

I strolled past him but stopped. “You know? Just to be sure—” I then pistol-whipped him so hard he lost consciousness and fell over. I stood there and blinked. “Well, that was easier than I thought.” I shrugged, then returned the gun to my bag before walking the rest of the way home.

But another worry gnawed at me, growing in the pit of my stomach.

I know I’m safe now, but…should I tell Felix about this?

I pulled my phone out, hesitating.

But if I tell him, he’ll leave work. And as much as I want to see him, I can’t do that to him. He’s already been through so much—worriedso much. If I tell him, he’ll freak out.

I paused outside my apartment door, pondering. I looked back towards the alley, seeing no sign of Ray.

Ray’s just a petty drug dealer. He’s no real threat. Besides, I handled him just fine on my own.

I put the phone back into my bag.

Felix has enough on his plate. He doesn’t need to know about this…not yet. I’ll just tell him about it when he gets back.

I unlocked the front door and stepped inside, locking it behind me. “Lady Zaza, look what I got!” I opened my bag to find that the crickets were missing. “What?” I searched my bag but couldn’t find them. “Ugh…fucking Ray.” I moved to the tarantula enclosure, eyeing the beautiful magenta spider. “Sorry, Lady Zaza. Looks like I lost your dinner.” I frowned. “I know…but I’ll get you some more soon. I promise.”

Now…I need a bath. And a way to fucking distract myself.

CHAPTER ELEVEN

FELIX

“So…how’s Dream?”I spun around from the monitors to see my brother, Haze, standing in the doorway. He was smoking another blunt, grinning from ear to ear. My phone buzzed, her face popping up onto the screen with her texts. “Is that her?” he asked, walking toward me.

I quickly flipped the phone over and shot him a death glare. “She’s fine.”

Haze raised a brow with that cocky smile of his. “Let’s hope she doesn’t look as bad as you.” He blew a mouthful of smoke into my face, making me cough. “You look like shit, hermano.” He seemed to be having a little too much fun poking at me.

“Don’t you have something better to do than bug me while I work?” I turned back to the monitors, returning to the coding I was working on.

Haze leaned against the desk with a heavy sigh. “Unfortunately. Word is, Charlotte’s Web is looking for bodies to go undercover for some trafficking club associated with Northern Lights.” He picked at his shirt. “They’re looking at sending Indi…alone.” His jaw immediately tensed as he raised the blunt to his lips. “But I’m not letting her out of my fuckingsight.” His face went dark and for a brief moment, I thought I was looking at our father.

I tried to shift the mood as best I could. “Where is she now?” I asked.

Haze lowered his head. “She’s spending some time with our cat, Kush. Neither of us have really been able to be home much recently so…she wants to make sure that little pothead gets all the attention he needs.” His lips curled. “Fucking spoiled cat…” He sat up, pretending to be unbothered. But I knew that just the idea of being separated from his twin was eating away at him.

“Talk to the Web. Tell them you want to work undercover as well and mention your baking skills. I’m sure they’ll find use for you somewhere.”

He scoffed. “Oh, they’ll find use for me whether they like it or not.” He offered the blunt to me, but I didn’t want any. “Suit yourself.” He took another hit. “Speaking of the Web…” He hesitated. “You should know that everyone’s talking.”

“About what?” I snapped.

Haze paused. “About you and Dream.” My body tensed. “You need to be careful, Felix. You’re one of the deadliest players in this fucked up game, but now they know your weakness, all your enemies are going to use her against you. Especially Kief.”

“I’d like to see him fucking try,” I growled. “I’ll kill him if he dares lay a finger on my woman.
