“I love the sound of that.” I removed myself from being so close to her because I was close to derailing the plan for the night. “In that case, let’s get to cooking.”
Mycah turned her phone off while I made sure the dogs were good. They were both sleeping, so I went back into the kitchen. While I waited for her to come over, I gathered everything we needed.
“I’m ready.”
Mycah put a pot of water on to boil while I grilled some chicken breast strips. We shared more about our upbringing while we moved fluidly through the kitchen, preparing everything.
“For the record, I don’t share either,” Mycah said as she put the garlic bread in the oven.
“I wouldn’t expect you to.” I kissed her temple, then moved around her to turn the pot with the sauce in it down. “If I’m not willing to share, I wouldn’t expect my partner to either. I don’t move like that.”
“That’s good.”
One of the dogs whined, so I told Mycah I would let them out in the backyard while she finished up the food. We just had to wait for the bread to get done. Even though I took Shadow for walks, I was glad that I had a yard for him to use whenever I didn’t feel like walking. Cashmere followed his lead, so after they both handled their business, we went back inside.
“Right on time.” Mycah beamed when I reentered the kitchen.
She had just taken the bread out of the oven.
“It sure smells good.” I walked over to the cabinet and pulled out plates for us to use. I also grabbed regular cups and wineglasses.
“I have some wine if you want some,” I informed Mycah as I pulled the wine out of the refrigerator.
“Wine is always good with pasta.”
Mycah made our plates while I poured the wine and some water.
Once we had everything settled, we sat down at the table in the kitchen.
We each took a moment to bless our food, then dug in.
Mycah moaned, but then stopped herself. When I looked her way, she wore a sneaky grin.
“Oopsie.” She giggled and covered her mouth.
“Ain’t no oops. It’s cool, because I got something for you later.” I winked, then continued eating.
Mycah’s breath hitched briefly before she recovered, then twirled some Alfredo onto her fork.
We ate in silence for a few minutes, only looking at each other. I could watch Mycah eat all day if I had the time. Hell, I could watch her do anything and not get bored. I was enamored with her, and I wasn’t trying to hide it.
“What does perfect chemistry mean to you?” Mycah asked.
I rubbed my beard as I thought about my answer.
After a few beats passed, I responded, “Perfect chemistry would be knowing what your partner is saying without them opening their mouth. It also is being able to be in each other’s space without feeling pressure to talk.” Leaning forward, I pinned my gaze on Mycah. “Perfect chemistry is when I find myself smiling at you, even when you aren’t looking.”
Her cheeks immediately flushed. “You do that?” she whispered as she played with her necklace.
“I do. More often than you would know. Do you think I’m weird?”
Mycah shook her head before she even uttered a word. “No, not at all. Why do you think we lock eyes so often? It’s because I look at you just as much as you look at me.”
Mycah’s eyes widened when I stood from my seat and walked around to her side of the table.
She lifted her head when I made it over to her. I lifted her chin, then leaned down to kiss her.
“Have you had your fill of food and wine?”
