“Is something wrong?”

“It’s Sienna. She’s having a really bad breakdown tonight. The maids can’t calm her down. She keeps asking for you.”

My heart clenches. Without thinking, I nod. “Oh my God, I will go to her now.”

“Let's go.”

Daniel leads the way. I follow closely, too worried about my sister to notice at first that the path feels unfamiliar. We turn down a narrower trail, then another. The lanterns become fewer. The garden starts to feel wrong.

My steps slow.

“Daniel, this isn’t the way to the house?—”

The estate alarms suddenly blare through the night.

At the same moment, Daniel’s hand clamps around my arm like steel. The concern on his face vanishes completely.

“That's because I'm not taking you to her,” he grits.

“What…”

I react instantly, twisting and slamming my elbow into his ribs. He grunts but doesn’t let go. I fight harder, kicking, clawing, trying to break free.

“Stop fighting,” he hisses, dragging me forward through the darkness, away from the house.

“What the hell are you doing?!” I shout, panic surging through me. “Where are you taking me?”

“Nico humiliated me,” Daniel growls, yanking me along. “Demoted me in front of everyone. Treated me like garbage. Gallo offered me real money, real power, and a place where I’m not some disposable dog. You do the math. All I have to do is help him get you back.”

The alarms scream louder. Lights flash across the grounds in the distance.

Terror floods my veins. I fight wildly, screaming Nico’s name even though I know he’s too far to hear. Daniel’s grip only tightens as he drags me deeper into the shadows.

CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT

Nico

These past few days have been hell.

I miss Eleonora more than I thought possible. The woman I love is sleeping just down the hall, and I can’t even go to her. I can’t hold her. I can’t talk to her. So close, yet so far away.

I gave her the space she asked for, but every night it feels like I’m tearing my own chest open. I know I should have told her the full truth about her father and her sisters.

I thought I could handle it quietly, keep her safe without adding more fear to her heart. But now I see how wrong that was.

She’s hurting. And I’m the one who caused it.

I sit in my study, staring at the monitors, trying to focus on work. But my mind keeps drifting back to her. To the way she looked when she handed me back the ring. To the tears in her eyes.

Then one of the garden motion sensors lights up.

I switch the feed and my breath catches.

Eleonora is walking slowly through the garden, a blanket wrapped around her shoulders. She looks small. Lonely. The moonlight catches her face, and even from here I can see the sadness in her expression.

I promised her space. But the need to be near her, even from a distance, wins. I stand up and head for the door.

That’s when another motion sensor triggers. I freeze and switch cameras. Daniel.
