“Geminiiiii,” she squealed my name, once we were in the water together.

The suit I was wearing was soaked, and even though I was holding Amina up, the bottom of her dress was wet too.

“We’re married, baby. We’re married,” she screamed it to me through laughs, and happy tears falling from her eyes.

“Hell yeah, we married! Mrs. Black. That looks good on you, baby,” I told her, putting my face right in front of hers, so that we could kiss one another.

It’s so crazy the way life works. I’m not going to lie, that first night on the truck with Amina, listening to her crying, I was ready to put her ass out. We were able to make it out of that stage.

At the most, I thought that once the drive was over, we would come back and at least be cordial with one another. I never thought that she would end up being my wife. I was glad that it played out this way though. I promise I wouldn’t trade a single moment of the way our love story went down.

Chapter 25

Amina Black

Today was our last day in Mexico. Gemini and I were headed out tomorrow morning. I have been on a high with this man ever since we tied the knot two days ago. It’s times where I found myself staring off into space, pinching myself, just making sure that it wasn’t a dream. Every time I would look down at my left hand, and see this beautiful rock sitting there, that’s when I was reminded that this actually was my life.

I will talk until I lose my voice when it comes to Gemini. Until there wasn’t a single breath left in my lungs, telling everyone that’s willing to listen that God sent me a man! A real good man. I got on that truck with him, and I was so broken. Jacob quickly made me feel like all men were bad people, that were put on this earth to ruin women. Gemini got rid of that mindset quickly. The way that man would tell me things, and he would stand on it.

Even before we solidified our relationship, I remember getting in my feelings one morning when I saw that a woman was calling him. That was the only day that I ever felt myself guessing. He quickly ridded me of that feeling because going forward, another woman never reached out to him. He shut allthat down. Crazy thing is, he didn’t even owe me that back then because we weren’t together yet, but he still did it.

His actions have never been inconsistent. He never left me with a bunch of empty promises. I just remember him constantly telling me, ‘I got you’, and he meant that. Gemini has been speaking marriage, and kids with me for a while now. Those words were beautiful to me. He could have continued to just say those beautiful words without acting on it, but he didn’t. He went out, bought a ring, proposed to me, and married me the same day. I don’t care if I started to sound like a broken record. The world was going to hear about how good of a man he was to me.

“Hey. Is anyone sitting here?” a woman came over to ask me.

I was in my own little world, thinking about my man, and missing him, even though he just walked away.

The second we made it outside and sat at the bar, he realized that he’d left his phone upstairs in the room, so he went back up to grab it. Instead of going with him, I stayed out here, holding down the seats at the bar. This was the outdoor bar that overlooked the beach, and since we arrived at the resort, this bar has been packed every day. We haven’t been able to sit at this specific bar. I was able to snag us two seats, with the perfect view of the ocean. I didn’t want to risk losing the seats, so that’s why Gemini went alone.

“No. You can go ahead,” I replied.

There were two empty seats. One on the left of me, and another on the right. The one to my right belonged to Gemini. The one to my left was the free seat that she was inquiring about.

“Thank you,” she replied.

She had a British accent. She sounded so much like the people back home in London. I studied her for a little bit, taking her in. She was beautiful. We looked to be around the same age. She had nice skin, and her hair was damp, as if she’d just comeout of the water. She wore a one-piece bathing suit, with a cover up.

When I looked at her, it caused her to look at me as well. I didn’t know her, but she looked at me as if she’d just seen a ghost. It wasn’t normal the way she looked at me. I mean, I didn’t feel uncomfortable about it, but it was enough for me to point it out and notice that it was strange. Maybe if I wasn’t on this high, her stare would have left me feeling uncomfortable, but it didn’t. I just went back to looking at the drink menu that was in front of me, trying to see what I wanted to order.

“There you are. I didn’t know that you came over here. I thought you got back into the pool,” when I heard that voice, I thought that I was getting pranked.

There’s no way in hell that he was here. No way. Then again, I knew that voice from anywhere. It had to be him. I was with him for years, spending time with him every single day, so I knew that the voice belonged to him.

Just wanting to make sure, I turned my head to look, and sure enough, it was him. Right there in the flesh. My almost husband. It was Jacob.

When I turned to look, he must have felt my eyes on him because he looked at me as well. The same weird look that the woman gave to me when she sat down is the same look that he gave me. Now, it made all the sense in the world why she’d stared at me like that. She knew who I was, but I didn’t know who she was. I’m sure she was the childhood friend that he’d left me for. This had to be Gabby.

I watched the way his eyes squinted as he looked at me. It’s as if he was trying to see if his eyes were playing tricks on him, but they weren’t. It was me.

I watched as this man’s eyes traveled from the top of my head, going down to my feet. I know that he was feeling sick to his stomach right now. I looked good. I was out here glowing. Mybeautiful curls looked the healthiest that they’ve ever looked in my life. Even though I haven’t stepped foot in the gym since I’ve been on the truck with Gemini, my body still looked as if I didn’t miss a class.

This flat stomach showed in the two piece, gold swimsuit that I was wearing. There was sunscreen, and a shimmering body oil all over my body, so I looked as if I was shining. I know I looked like I was ready to pose for a magazine photoshoot. Different women have been complimenting my hair, skin, body, and glow since I stepped foot out of the room this morning.

“Amina?” he asked me.

He said my name as if he couldn’t believe that I was here. When he said my name, you would have thought that I’ve never met this man a day in my life by the way I turned my head and didn’t even acknowledge his presence. I didn’t show anger. I didn’t even choose to be petty. I just simply turned my head.

I allowed this man to bring me to my lowest. Scream, and cry in front of him for calling the wedding off. I’ll be damned if I ever offer him any kind of emotion out of me again.
