“Buzz us when you want out…or if you’re captured or killed. Give us a head start to flee, at least,” winked Dan.

The height of the speedboat paled in comparison to the yacht. It had only brought him in at the lower enclosed deck. Not enough to get up to the open level. Adam couldn’t even see the deck from where he stood. But boy, did he love a challenge.

Stashing the gun in the back of his pants, Adam cocked his neck and flexed his muscles to warm up. But when he jumped up onto the side of the yacht, grabbing hold of the window railings, he couldn’t hide the smug smile that displayed the fact he hadn’t needed to warm up his muscles at all.

He pulled himself to stand upright on the window rail and jumped once more to the above deck to join the party guests.

The unconventional entry earned him a few curious glances. He was well under-dressed, but it didn’t stop him strutting confidently through the crowd. Confidence was key, after all. Fake it til you make it, right?

Groaning, Adam decided it was well past time to head below deck when “Ice Ice Baby” came roaring over the sound system. He’d had quite enough already. Especially when that particular song was playing.

After finding a door and making his way below deck, Adam landed in a large corridor with blue linoleum flooring and shut doors lining either side of the hall. He walked with his head down and his hand perched on his gun. The incoming light on his radio glowed red.

“Go,” he said.

“Someone’s pulled up at the back of the yacht, see if you can get close enough to find out what’s going on,” Paul said.

“Got it.”

At the end of the corridor was an open door that housed a small storage room and bifold doors that looked out onto the open back deck. Adam ducked behind the door as he spotted men loading powder-filled white satchels into storage.

“Drug shipment,” Adam whispered into the radio.

“Damn, right out in the open, Blake’s are cockier than I thought,” Carlos said.

“Drug shipment is bigger than we prepared for, we’ll come get you out,” Paul said.

Adam hesitated, looking back and forth between his radio and the shipment. He really wanted to take it. In the old days, he would’ve. But he knew better now, and he knew they needed a better plan before pulling off something so big.

“Adam?” Paul buzzed through the radio again, skepticism in his voice. Truthfully, Adam was just as skeptical as they were that he could really change his careless approach.

“Yeah, okay, I’m on my way ba–”

“You’re not supposed to be down here! Who the hell are you?!”

Well, shit.

One of the drug shippers was coming right at him, angrily wagging a finger.

His team was going to be pretty disappointed with him, he had promised them he was no longer reckless. But it wasn’t his fault, right? There was no other way out of this one. The thugs practically gave him no choice.

“You’re gonna wanna get back here.” Adam spoke slowly into the radio, and his capturer narrowed his eyes.

“What? Why?” Paul’s panicked voice replied.

Adam rushed from behind his cover, giving the guy a pitied smile before drawing his weapon and firing three shots right into his head.

“Intruder!” Alarms began sounding on the lower decks, flashing red.

Bursting through the bifold doors, Adam stumbled out onto the back deck where the shipment was still being loaded into storage. Sliding over a wooden crate filled with cocaine probably, judging from the leaking white powder, Adam kicked one of the guards and spun quickly to land a punch to another.

The favor was returned, and Adam fell to the floor. He stumbled as blood poured from his nose. Recovering quickly, he snapped his hand around an approaching worker’s neck, and with the other fired his gun at another who rushed him.

A rumble sounded in the background. Adam blanched, recognizing the sound of the drug boat starting up for a getaway. No fucking way were they getting away that easy.

Adam threw the guy he was holding down hard, stomping on his face to knock him out. He rushed toward the loading boat, ducking punches as he did, and once he reached it he jumped onto the bow, pushing forward.

A masked man, who had been frantically trying to drive the boat away, lifted his head with a fearful look as Adam grabbed his collar and threw him overboard.
