She pressed her body into his, kissing him again. “I’m yours, baby. Don’t forget again.”

He gripped at her hips like he was readying to pounce. Before he got the chance, she struggled out of his arms and backed toward the door.

“Mean.” He shook his head.

She gave him a filthy look before ripping the door open to leave, and when she did, she found Carlos standing in front of her with an outstretched hand, about to knock.

“Carlos!” She stumbled back.

“Hey, you’re here early.” He looked her up and down, raising his brow.

It was an effort to suppress a full grin. She merely rolled her eyes and gave Carlos a quick peck on the check before dashing down the stairs.

She closed the door behind her. Before she could make it far, she distinctly heard Carlos begin to ask Adam what the two of them were doing, followed by a whooshing sound, a smack and then Carlos grunting through laughter.

* * *

“So, how’d you do last night?” Paul asked.

Adam dropped the gun from his sight and looked over his shoulder to where Dan and Carlos were sitting across the lot. They didn’t appear to be listening, just Carlos teaching Dan how to bag the supply of crystals.

Adam shrugged. “Good, we got the pictures we needed.” Glass shattered as Adam fired his practice shot. The ring of gunfire was unusually loud, but still none of them even so much as flinched at the sound.

Paul smiled. “You know that’s not what I meant.”

Adam only returned the smirk, and then lifted the gun, ready for another bullseye.

“Judging from what I witnessed this morning, I’d say things wentreallywell,” Carlos said. Huh. Not quite far enough out of earshot.

“What doesthatmean?” Dan’s eyes brightened with interest.

“I caught M leaving his room about six this morning.”

“That proves nothing,” Dan said, narrowing his eyes.

“Oh yeah? What about Adam’s dorky ass grin and sex hair then?”

“Goddammit!” Dan threw the cigarette from his mouth and stomped it out. Pulling out a twenty-dollar bill, he grimaced as he handed it off to Carlos.

Carlos waved the bill in his hand, as if to gloat, before he pocketed it and reached his hand out. Raising his brow in silent command. To Paul?

Paul succumbed, too. Rolling his eyes, he drew a twenty and handed it over.

“What the fuck?” Adam said, eyes so wide he wouldn’t be surprised if they went bouncing out of his head.

“You only won by a week at most, come off it.” Dan was a particularly sore loser, he turned his frown toward the bag of supply.

“Hey, I had May. Not my fault you overshot it with June,” Carlos laughed.

Adam, although amused, fought the urge to punch his friends. All their teasing about her never coming back to him, and they’d been fucking betting on it the whole time.

“I had March,” Paul said. “Really thought you would only hold out for a few weeks.”

“You placed bets.”

He expected them to be more ashamed, but they all just nodded. Carlos was still gloating to rile Dan, when Paul turned to Adam and said, “Don’t get distracted, though, bud.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Adam said, shoulders stiffening.
